Richard Knapp Wins the Screenplay Competition at the 2012 Canada Film Festival

Richard Knapp of Las Vegas, NV has won the Award of Excellence of the Screenplay Competition at the 2012 CIFF, for his screenplay, "Can Richard Come Out and Play?".

    LAS VEGAS, NV, May 21, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Andre' Haynes 'The People's Publicist' announced today that Richard Knapp of Las Vegas, NV has won the Award of Excellence of the Screenplay Competition at the 2012 CIFF, for his screenplay, "Can Richard Come Out and Play?". Richard Knapp's Award of Excellence was presented on March 31, 2012 at the Closing Night Award Ceremony at Edgewater Casino's Stadium Club Theatre.

CIFF is gaining a reputation for its wide variety of film genres, and has quickly garnered a respected following for its dynamic selections. Held each year in Vancouver, BC, the festival brings the very best of world cinema to Canada and has exhibited films from over 90 countries around the world. The 2012 Canada International Film Festival was held Saturday, March 31, to Sunday, April 1, at Scarlet Tapas Lounge and at Edgewater Casino's Stadium Club Theatre. This year kicked off the first Filmmakers and Screenwriters Networking Dinner on Saturday at Scarlet Tapas Lounge. Continuing the program on Sunday at the Edgewater Casino's Stadium Club Theatre, where a wide variety of North American and international feature films as well as thought-provoking shorts, documentaries, music videos, animations, experimental films, student films, and more will be showcased. This industry-leading competition was sponsored by Allegiant Air, Molson Canadian, The Refinery, The Write Brothers Screenplay Competition, The Gulf Islands Film and Television School, The Fourth Period, and The Thought Division.

The Canada International Film Festival has firmly established itself among the top film festivals in Canada. Each year, awards are presented in all of the main categories for the top films and filmmakers, writers and actors. The highly coveted Grand Jury Award will be presented to the best film in competition selected from among all the films in the Festival.

In an effort to foster new and undiscovered writing talent, the Canada International Film Festival also features an annual Screenplay Competition. Awards are given for the top screenplays in competition. All films and screenplays featured in the Canada International Film Festival are selected based only on the overall quality and merits of the work. Richard Knapp has been in the television/broadcast business for over twenty-five years. He is a creative communications professional with experience producing, directing and managing network and local video productions and operations. Richard has hands-on experience in studio, field unit and postproduction direction and has served as executive producer on various distinguished programs.

Through the years, Richard has managed to win eight national and local Emmy's along with other esteemed recognitions and awards. At NBC (National Broadcasting Company) Network, he has worked on some of their most renowned sports productions including Super Bowls and World Series'. At WNET/13 in New York, the main production house for Public Broadcasting, he worked on some of their most prestigious programming including the multiple award winning series "Bill Moyers' Journal".

Richard is and has been for many years a member of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and has participated as a judge for the Emmy Awards. When time permits, he is also a film documentary producer/director. He has written a novel that he has recently adapted to a screenplay.

Richard has been brought on board by corporations and towns to manage and renovate new and existing television stations. He has also worked internationally as both a producer and consultant. On the corporate level he managed The Worldwide Video Network for Johnson & Johnson at their corporate headquarters in New Jersey.

Richard is a graduate of the University of Miami, Florida and has a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications.
