Dr. Wilson is a distinguished research professor in the department of chemistry in the Center for Photochemical Sciences at Bowling Green State University and professor emeritus in the department of chemistry at the University of Cincinnati (UC). Earning both titles in 2005, he formerly spent 28 years at Bowling Green State University in the roles of adjunct professor, interim director, and distinguished research professor and 38 years at UC as an assistant, associate, and full professor, acting head, head of the department of chemistry, and distinguished research professor. During his tenure in academia, Dr. Wilson also taught as a visiting professor of chemistry at the Ohio State University, the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg in Germany, and the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

Earning a BS in Chemical Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University in 1961 where he worked for three different private companies during the summer months, and a PhD in Organic Chemistry under Professor John C. Sheehan at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1965. While pursuing his degrees, Dr. Wilson served as a graduate assistant at MIT, and a fellowship with the National institutes of Health at MIT. This was followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University under Professor R. B. Woodward.

Concentrating his research in organic methods, natural products synthesis, photochemistry, chemical applications of lasers and DNA Photomanipulation, Dr. Wilson has been recognized many times for his superb work in the field of Chemistry He received a Hans H. Jaffe Award for Distinguished Scholarship from the department of chemistry at UC in 2005, a Rieveschl Award for Distinguished Scientific Research in 1998, the Named Distinguished Scientist of the Year by the Technical Societies Council of Cincinnati in 1991, and the 2018 Inter-American photochemical Society Fellow Award. Out of all the awards and recognitions he received, one of the greatest highlights of his career was the National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellowship in the group of Professor R. B. Woodward, a Nobel Prize winner and one of the most famous chemists of all time.

Dr. Wilson served on the advisory board for the department of chemistry in the Biomedical Research Center at UC for many years beginning in 1986, performed consulting work for such organizations as the International Paper Company in New York and the W. R. Grace and Company in Maryland, was president of DenDroCo, LLC, and served as a lecturer and organizer for many conferences and symposium while in academia. He has contributed more than 100 peer-reviewed articles to journals and was the co-author and co-editor of numerous books throughout his career was well.

A member of such organizations as the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Society of Laser medicine and Surgery, the New York Academy of Science, and the American Chemical Society, Dr. Wilson has been cited in Who's Who in Science and Engineering for his work. Married to Antonia Gigliello since 1967, he has two children.
