She was previously a child psychiatrist at the Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins University, an associate clinical professor at the University of Maryland, and a pediatrics emergency physician for the Howard County General Hospital with John Hopkins Health System. She also served at Georgetown University Medical Center as an associate professor of psychiatry, an associate professor of pediatrics, and an assistant clinical professor. Additionally, she held the positions of subject matter expert for Defense Centers of Excellence at the University of Maryland from 2009 to 2012, medical director for the Riverside Hospital from 1999 to 2005, pediatrics emergency physician for the Mercy Medical Center from 1997 to 1999, and pediatric resident for the University of Maryland School of Medicine from 1994 to 1997. Dr. Jani began her career as an intern in science at the Mithibai College of Arts and resident in general psychiatry for the Indian University School of Medicine from 1984 to 1987.
Before embarking on her professional path, Dr. Jani pursued an education at B.J. Medical College, earning a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 1983. She continued her academic efforts with a residency in adult psychiatry in 1984 at Indiana University. She concluded her studies in 1987 at Johns Hopkins University, graduating with a fellowship in child psychiatry. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, the American Board of Pediatrics, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the American College of Forensic Medicine, and the American Board of Forensic Professionals. Dr. Jani is certified as a general psychiatrist, child and adolescent psychiatrist, pediatrician, forensic psychiatrist, medical review officer, and addiction medicine specialist.
Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Dr. Jani has participated in numerous endeavors in her professional circles. She contributed to the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center as consultant and psychiatrist from 1986 to 1987. Likewise, she held the roles of chief consultant and psychiatrist for the Baltimore Detention Center from 1988 to 1989 and consultant for the Family Preservation Initiative. Dr. Jani found success with her charitable works as well, having volunteered with the Radha-Krishna Leprosy Camp in Dubai, UAE from 1981 to 1983.
In addition to her primary trade, Dr. Jani remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She has been a member of the Family League of Baltimore, Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, the Maryland Psychiatric Society, the Columbia Association, and the India House of Worship. She has also been active with the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, the American Psychiatry Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Society of Addiction Medicine. Dr. Jani has served on the Advisory Board of the Family Involved Together Program.
In light of her exceptional undertakings, Dr. Jani has accrued several accolades and honors throughout her impressive career. She was recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a Fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and a Fellow of the School of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University in 1989.
