LUMBERTON, NC, August 30, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On August 17, 2017, Felicia Evans Long, founder of Sweet Candy Cafe located in Lumberton, N.C., awarded the 3rd Annual Timothy R. Long Memorial Scholarship to senior student Jeankarlew Mora at Christ the King Preparatory Catholic School in Newark, N.J. Jeankarlew was awarded with a $1,000 scholarship to provide assistance for her expenses incurred during the transition from high school to college.

Jeankarlew expressed her gratitude for being awarded the scholarship and what it meant for her to meet Evans Long during the August 17 ceremony:

"Growing up, it has been very difficult for me to see my mother worry about bills. But because of the love Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Long have for education, I have been blessed with a scholarship to help me succeed academically," said Jeankarlew. "I was also lucky enough to meet Mrs. Timothy Long where I formed an amazing bond which I will treasure for a lifetime."

Evans Long created the scholarship in memory of her husband, Timothy R. Long, Sweet Candy Cafe Co-founder and Essex Catholic High School Class of 1992 graduate. He passed away suddenly on August 17, 2014 in California.

Long credited Essex Catholic High School with shaping his life and helping him achieve his career goals. He started his professional career at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases and later joined the George Washington University Hospital Operating Room team in Washington, D.C. Long actively participated in mission assignments in Guatemala and Guyana. He enjoyed his healthcare career and being a small business owner in Historic Downtown Lumberton. Motivated by her husband's zest for life, Evans Long continues building their companies, Sweet Candy Cafe and Sweet Events and Planning.

Sweet Candy Cafe will mark its five-year store anniversary on November 25, 2017.
