Dr. Yau was presented with a Technical Achievement Award with the 2001 Annual Conference of NACE International and The Worldwide Corrosion Authority.
Dr. Yau earned a PhD from the The Ohio State University in 1979, and became interested in the phenomenon of corrosion while working on a Master's degree. He believes he has achieved his current success by working with people of a complimentary expertise, which allowed him to focus on solving corrosion problems. The highlight of his career was finding a simple, practical solution to the pyrophoric problems of certain corrosion products, and Dr. Yau intends to continue research in the field in the coming years.
In a model example of the American dream, Dr. Yau immigrated from Taiwan to the United States to build a better future. He was born to the late Chi-Ho Yau, his father, and his mother, Chih Yang. Dr. Yau has two brothers, Chi-Chiu Yao and Chi-Kang Yao, as well as a sister, Shaw-Yoon Yao. He is now an American citizen, and the husband of Jue-Hua Yau. They have three children together: Kai-Huei, Ian-Huei, and Jean-Huei, who married Austin Deakins. Dr. Yau's family enjoys hiking and traveling the country.
