Thelma J. Douglass, EdD, Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

    HUMBLE, TX, March 14, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Thelma J. Douglass, EdD, a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Dr. Douglass celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. A lifelong learner and educator, Dr. Douglass began her academic career at the University of Houston, where she spent 11 years in several positions, including as a program coordinator, conference coordinator, recruitment coordinator, assistant manager of housing, assistant to the dean of campus life, faculty member, and assistant dean of students. By the early 1990s, she was ready to take on new challenges, serving as a lecturer at Sam Houston State University for several years, then as associate vice president and dean of students, and vice president for student services. Responsible for such departments as the Dean of Student Life Office, Counseling Services, Career Services, Public Safety Services, Lowman Student Center, Health Center, Recreational Sports and Activities, Athletics, Student Activities and Students' Legal Services, Dr. Douglass later accepted the position of assistant to the president. She's a higher education and motivational consultant, where she remains to this day.

In 2005, Dr. Douglass also became the CEO of ARK Consulting. She has chaired and served on various committees throughout her career, stemming back to 1980 when she founded Good News Gospel Choir at the University of Houston. Active with many professional institutions, such as the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the American College of Personnel Association, the National Association of Colleges and Universities, and several others, her activity includes various community organizations, such as the Huntsville Leadership Institute, Huntsville Chamber of Commerce, and Huntsville Rotary. Charitable affiliations include, contributor to the Community Educational Television, Inc., supporter of the Houston PBS Network, participant in the St. Jude Children Research Hospital, participant in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, supporter of the Day Star Television Network, participant in the Star of Hope in Houston, participant in the Humble Area Assistance Ministry, Texas Children Hospital, and others.

Notably, Dr. Douglass authored "SWACHURH's Advisor's Handbook" in 1986, "Eight Years of Development, History of SWACURH" in 1988, "The Competency Skills Needed In Higher Education: An Important Global Paradigm for the 21st Century" in 2001, "Lessons Learned In Establishing An ID/Debit Card for College Planning & Management" in 2003, and co-authored the following: "Research of Regional Transit" in 1988, "Student Services In American Colleges And Universities" in 2000, "Faculty Collaboration: An Ideal Paradigm In The Academy of Student Affairs" in 2003 and many articles and presentations.

The first African American and first woman to hold the title of vice president at Sam Houston State University, Dr. Douglass is the recipient of numerous other achievements as well, including a Young Black Achiever Award by the City of Houston, Consortium of Doctors Recipient, Mary McLeod Bethune Education Service Award, Mayor of Houston Resolution Plaque For Outstanding Service, Leadership, & Support, University Houston Good News Gospel Choir, Public Schools of Houston Guiding Star Award Honoree, Gospel Music Workshop of America Award Honoree. She has been named to several editions to Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women for her work as well.

Receiving a Bachelor's degree, Master's degree in Education, and Doctorate of Education at the University of Houston, Dr. Douglass also attended Colo. State University's International School of Theology and did post baccalaureate work in education at Texas Southern University. She is also certified in finance through Asset Protection, Management, and Real Estate.
