For 46 years Mr. Thomas Dolan was employed by DePaul University as a member of its professional staff. Located in Chicago, DePaul attracts students globally, and offers more than 130 undergraduate majors and 175 graduate programs. He began his career at the university in 1968 as an Administrative Assistant to the Dean of the University College, advising undergraduate students and for several years coordinating the university's summer sessions and handling the phase-out of the Home Study Department. He retired in 2014 as an Associate Director of the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business (KGSB). During his tenure in KGSB (1980-2014), he served in a number of administrative functions, including participation on the admissions committee, coordinating joint graduate programs with the College of Law, the College of Computer Science, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and providing academic advising services for KGSB at the suburban campuses in Des Plaines, Lake Forest, and Naperville. He also served as parliamentarian of the University Senate. In 2006 the university bestowed on Mr. Dolan the Spirit of DePaul award, given to those staff and faculty who exemplify the spirit and values of Saint Vincent DePaul.
Before arriving at DePaul, Mr. Dolan began his teaching career in academia in 1960 as an instructor in philosophy at Edgewood College of the Sacred Heart in Madison. Having earned his Bachelor's degree in philosophy from Marquette University in 1954 and completing his Master's degree at Marquette in 1963, he taught philosophy full-time at Loyola University Chicago from 1962 to 1968. Beginning in 1972 he taught periodically as an adjunct instructor in philosophy at a number of institutions including College of Lake County, Northeastern Illinois University, Barat College, College of Saint Francis, Columbia College of Missouri, and from 1979 to 2014 at Oakton Community College.
Beginning in the 1970s Mr. Dolan also worked part-time on nights and weekends as a nursing assistant at several institutions including Highland Park Hospital, Villa St. Cyril, and from 1982 to 1999 at Lake Forest Hospital.
Married to the late Mary Ellen Burns Dolan in 1963, Mr. Dolan has two daughters and three granddaughters. He has been highlighted in Marquis Who's Who in America between 2011 and 2016 for his accomplishments in his field.
