William J. Schoenl, PhD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    EAST LANSING, MI, December 07, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present William J. Schoenl, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Schoenl celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Retired history professor at Michigan State University (MSU) of 24 years, Dr. Schoenl's passion for education became evident when he first began teaching at the university in 1968 as a professor of humanities. Shifting out of humanities and into history in 1989, he maintained the same enthusiasm. In addition to teaching in the classroom and publishing, he founded the honors college undergraduate grant for dire needs overseas in 2008, co-founded the College of Engineering undergraduate grants for dire needs overseas in 2013, established The Canisius College honors scholarships for international programs in 2012, and served as a member of the St. John Church committee for dire needs overseas since 1971.

Throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, Dr. Schoenl was present with the American Society of Church History in Chicago as a research committee member. He was also on the board of trustees for the Center for Jung Studies of Detroit for three years in the early 1990s. Dr. Schoenl spent time writing and publishing articles and reviews in journals, including The American Historical Review, and gave papers, and served as a chair and commentator at annual meetings for various professional organizations. He is the author of five books, including "Major Issues in the Life and Work of C.G. Jung," (1996) and, most recently, "Jung's Evolving Views of Nazi Germany: From the Nazi Take Over to the End of World War II," (2016).

Born in Buffalo, NY, Dr. Schoenl attended Canisius College where he earned a BS in Mathematics in 1963. He was then accepted to Columbia University, where he pursued an MA and PhD in History, graduating in 1964 and 1968, respectively. A longstanding member of the American Historical Association, member of the Kiwanis Club of Okemos where he served in numerous roles, and member of the Rotary Club of Haslett, Dr. Schoenl has also been known to volunteer locally with the Salvation Army. He and his wife Linda were the Nyaka AIDS Orphans Foundation Volunteer of the Year, Uganda, 2015.

Dr. Schoenl has been the recipient of grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the American Philosophical Society, and MSU. Cited in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the Midwest, and Who's Who in the World, Dr. Schoenl has been married to Linda Volker with whom he has had three children. Recently, they co-founded the Sustainable Chicken Loan Project in Thika, Kenya, with Nutri-Fresh Farm & Agri Hub to empower needy families through chicken start-up loans and skills transfer.
