Women of Distinction Magazine Selects Reyna LaShawn Gilmore, MD as a Distinguished Professional in Her Field

Reyna LaShawn Gilmore, MD will be featured in an upcoming edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine in 2016/2017.

CINCINNATI, OH, October 26, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Reyna LaShawn Gilmore, MD, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist/Independent Contractor, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Reyna LaShawn Gilmore, MD will be featured in an upcoming edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine in 2016/2017.

Focusing her entire career on child and adolescent psychiatry due to her personal experience with mental health and subsequent experiences she gained in medical school, Reyna LaShawn Gilmore, MD became Board Certified in psychiatry after completing her residency at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia and her child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

Currently a practicing Physician as an Independent Contractor/Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist for multiple mental health agencies, Dr. Gilmore serves and treats children and families from diverse backgrounds with varying mental health issues.

As rewarding as Dr. Gilmore's career is, it can also be equally emotionally draining. By focusing her attention on all of the good she is doing to serve those in need, she is better able to remain positive even in the worst of situations.

"In my profession I have the opportunity to not only support, but also educate those in the community that need it most, which is important to me as an African American female physician," Dr. Gilmore said, noting that there is a stigma associated with mental illness, especially in the African American community. "It's important that I am able to serve as a positive role model and well as an accessible tool for those in need of mental health."

After first completing a health magnet program at Tampa Bay Technical High School, Dr. Gilmore went on to pursue a BS in Biology at Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans before working toward her Doctorate of Medicine at Howard University's College of Medicine in Washington, DC. Active as a member of American Psychiatric Association, American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists, and American Association of Community Psychiatrists, Dr. Gilmore has also earned numerous accolades dating back to 2004, including the Brian J. McConville Outstanding Resident Award, an EY Williams Resident of Distinction Award, an American Psychiatric Institute for Research and Education Research Mini-Fellow, and an Outstanding Community Service Award, to name a few.
