With 50 years of professional experience to his name, Dr. Watt currently serves as vice president of the ABMAC Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing health care education in the People's Republic of China. Having held this position since 2003, he has also contributed his efforts as a visiting professor and honorary consultant at Chengdu Third People's Hospital since 2012. Beyond these charitable endeavors, Dr. Watt has otherwise been enjoying his retirement from active professional pursuits, having most recently served Primary Source in Watertown, MA, from 1995 to 2007.

A native of Rugby, United Kingdom, Dr. Watt began his career at the University of Oxford, earning a Bachelor's degree in European History in 1957. He continued his studies at the University of London the following year, pursuing postgraduate coursework in Chinese language and literature at their School of Oriental and African Studies. In 1959, he received a Master's degree in Regional Studies of East Asia from Harvard University. Dr. Watt rounded out his educational experiences at Columbia University, where he earned a PhD in East Asian Studies in 1967.

Prior to his graduation from Columbia University, Dr. Watt completed a research fellowship through the Social Science Research Council from 1964 to 1966, after which he was hired as an assistant professor in the humanities department at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Following a one year period in that role, he was recruited by the University of Redlands as director and faculty chair of the Johnston Center for Integrative Studies from 1968 to 1974. He went on to hold several positions in relation to his field, including dean of Windham College from 1974 to 1976, organist and choir director for the Congregational Church from 1975 to 1978, organist and choir director for the Episcopal and Methodist-Baptist Churches from 1981 to 1989, and the executive secretary for the Committee on International Relations Studies with the People's Republic of China from 1986 to 1992.

During this time, Dr. Watt began his professional relationship with ABMAC, Inc., working as their executive director from 1979 to 1985, and on their Board of Directors from 1986, until their transition into the ABMAC Foundation in 2003. Additionally, he served as a second lieutenant in the British Army from 1953 to 1954, with one year's combat service in Malaysia. From 1995 to 2011, Dr. Watt served on the Board of the Pierian Sodality of Harvard University in support of the Harvard Radcliffe Orchestra, and he was appointed to the role of president for the Cambridge Musical Club in 2013.

In addition to his impressive career ventures, Dr. Watt has built a prolific assembly of literary works in relation to his areas of expertise. In 1972, he penned his first book, "The District Magistrate in Late Imperial China," which was published through the Columbia University Press as a part of their Studies of the East Asian Institute. Furthermore, he wrote "Health Care and National Development in Taiwan, 1950-2000" in 2008, as well as "Public Medicine in Wartime China: Biomedicine, State Medicine, and the Rise of China's National Medical Colleges" for the Rosenberg Institute for East Asian Studies at Suffolk University in 2012. Most recently, Dr. Watt authored "Saving Lives in Wartime China: How Medical Reformers Built Modern Healthcare Systems Amid War and Epidemics, 1928-1945" in 2014. A Chinese language version was published by Fudan University Press in 2015. Dr. Watt is now completing a text titled "The Wisdom of the Covenants and their Relevance to Our Times".

Married to his wife Anne Russell Sturgis since December 17, 1960, Dr. Watt is the proud father of Alison Sturgis, Fiona Shelford, and Jennifer Cameron. Looking towards the future, he hopes to make the most out of his retirement while further contributing his expertise and research through the ABMAC Foundation and other agencies.
