Dr. Zerbe has served as a Training and Supervising Psychoanalysist at Oregon Psychoanalytic Institute in Portland since 2001. She served as the director of the Oregon Psychoanalytic Center from 2008 to 2014. She served Oregon Health Services University in a variety of capacities. She held the position of professor of psychiatry and obstetrics-gynecology at the Oregon Health Sciences University from 2001 to 2008, where she continues to teach.

Dr. Zerbe spent her early career with The Menninger Clinic, appointed training and supervisory analyst in 1995. She previously held the Jack Aron chair in Psychiatric Education from 1997 to 2001, as staff psychiatrist from 1982 to 2001, and as vice president of Education and Research from 1993 to 1997. In addition, Dr. Zerbe also held the title of Dean and Director of Education and Research of the Karl Menninger School of Psychiatry from 1992 to 1997.

She is an active member of the Center for Advanced Psychoanalytic Studies since 2009, teaches numerous seminars and courses nationally and internationally, and is a Supervising Analyst at The Institute for Contemporary Psychoanalysis since 2014.

Dr. Zerbe received a Doctor of Medicine from Temple University in 1978 and a Bachelor of Science, cum laude, from Duke University in 1973. She completed her residency at the Karl Menninger School of Psychiatry in 1982. She is licensed to practice medicine in the state of Oregon, and she was certified to practice psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in 1984.

Dr. Zerbe is the author of "Integrated Treatment of Eating Disorder," published in 2008, "Eating Disorders for Ob-Gyns," published in 2007, "Women's Mental Health in Primary Care," published in 1999, and "The Body Betrayed: Women, Eating Disorders and Treatment" published in 1993. She also served as a member of the editorial board of Eating Disorders: The Journal of Treatment and Prevention; Postgraduate Medicine; Eating Disorders Review, Bulletin of the Menninger Clinic; and Psychodynamic Psychiatry. She was the editor of Women's' Mental Health: Primary Care Clinics in 2001. She has over 150 articles in professional journals, book reviews, and research papers.

Dr. Zerbe is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a member of the American Medical Association, American Psychoanalytic Association, and the American College of Psychiatrists. She also maintains affiliation with the Oregon Medical Association, the Center for Advanced Psychoanalytic Studies, the American College of Psychoanalysts, the Oregon Psychiatric Physicians Association, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Dr. Zerbe has been honored with numerous awards and commendations for her contributions to her field. The National Psychiatric Endowment Fund awarded her with the Laughlin Merit Award in 1982, and the American Psychoanalytic Association commended her with the Edith Sabshin Award in 2007. In 2002 she was awarded by the American Psychiatric Association and Association of Women Psychiatrists the Alexandra Symonds Lectureship. She was also honored as a Seeley Fellow from 1979 to 1982, as well as one of Portland's Top Doctors. Her mentorship was commended with the Women Helping Women's Award in 1997 by NEDA and the Mentorship Award in 1997.

Dr. Zerbe's outstanding influence in education was also commended with the Teacher of the Year Award for Psychiatry Residents in 1988, 1996, 1999, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 and the Hilde Bruch Lectureship in 1996. Finally, her research was recognized with a writing award by the Topeka Institute for Psychoanalysis, now known as the Greater Kansas City-Topeka Psychoanalytic Center, in 1985 and 1990, in addition to the Outstanding Professional Programs Award by the Alumni Association of the Menninger Foundation in 1982.
