January 24, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Making the decision to split-up from a spouse and be single again is a difficult decision for many Baton Rouge residents. Not only is this initial decision emotionally trying, but going through the entire divorce process, especially when there are children involved, can cause feelings of guilt, anxiety stress and grief. For some, these feelings are often too much too bear.

A sad ending to a difficult divorce

For example, a Louisiana man killed three people and then himself following a difficult divorce and custody battle. However, in the months preceding his crimes, he was attempting to overcome the difficulties he had been experiencing. According to Fox News, in June of this year, the man had made an agreement with his ex-wife to pay her thousands of dollars in child support funds that were overdue and had also agreed with her to split the money they would be receiving from selling lots.

However, despite these attempts towards reconciliation, the man was charged for harassing his ex-wife over the phone in October of this year and was charged with assaulting his current wife shortly after. After these occurrences, the man killed his wife, went on to kill two more people while wounding three others in the process before eventually taking his own life.

Benefits of divorce that often go overlooked

Although divorce can be difficult and emotionally trying, it doesn't have to end like this man's divorce which eventually ended his life and others. Because many people going through the divorce process get distracted by their emotions, they often forget the real benefits of this legal action. These benefits include the:
- Opportunity to be happier and more content in life.
- Ability to stay healthier and avoid the health consequences that are often associated with staying in an unhappy marriage.
- Ability to avoid the financial difficulties that married couples experience.
- Chance to learn what works in a marriage and what doesn't, resulting in a happier second marriage.
- Chance to model to any children involved in the marriage what it means to be in a supportive relationship.

In order to take advantage of these benefits, it is essential that individuals going through a divorce mourn and give themselves a chance to work through their feelings. Following this, they should then take the chance to reinvent themselves and learn to enjoy being single once again.

Not only can following the steps for grieving and then learning how to be single once more allow divorcees to benefit from getting divorced, but hiring an experienced attorney can also ensure that their best interests are protected and that the divorce goes smoothly. If you and your spouse are considering divorce, contact an attorney in your area to begin the divorce proceedings.
