CHASKA, MN, August 17, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- National Diversity Day (NDD) will be here in less than two months, so now is the time to start making plans.
National Diversity Day is on the first Friday in October (Diversity Awareness Month); this year it falls on October 7, 2011. This celebration has been officially listed in Chase's Calendar of Events for the last 6 years.

National Diversity Day was established to provide a day to celebrate and embrace who we are, despite our differences, no matter what race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, nationality, or disability. A day to reflect on and learn about different cultures and ideologies. A day to vow acceptance and tolerance. A day to consciously address these areas at educational and religious institutions, as well as in the workplace and at home.

Now is the time for you to join in on the celebrations. The ways to celebrate the day are endless and you can do it anywhere. At home, at work, at school, or in your place of worship are all wonderful places to celebrate at. Below are some ideas of things you can do to celebrate National Diversity Day

• Invite speakers from different backgrounds to speak to your group about their traditions, or the challenges they have faced related to diversity
• Host a celebration or festival that brings together different ethnic group to celebrate the day. Have everyone bring something related to their own culture.
• Rent movies that deal with diverse topics, such as "Hotel Rwanda," "Crash," or "Not in My Town," and follow them up with small group discussions to promote positive responses towards change.
• Find storytellers who specialize in the folktales of specific cultures. Invite them to your classroom, place of worship, or work.
• Explore different cultures through art forms, poetry, music, crafts, traditional costumes, language, etc. Have an art show featuring local, diverse artists, or a poetry reading, or a concert.
• Display a photography exhibit of different cultures--could even feature the students/families or employees/families of your organization.
• Have a display or flag ceremony of different nations' flags representing the different ethnicities living in the US.
