Warner Norcross Expands Office in Kalamazoo, Welcomes Two New Attorneys

The law firm of Warner Norcross & Judd LLP has welcomed two well-respected attorneys as it moves into new, larger offices in downtown Kalamazoo.
    KALAMAZOO, MI, July 25, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The law firm of Warner Norcross & Judd LLP has welcomed two well-respected attorneys as it moves into new, larger offices in downtown Kalamazoo.

Eric V. Brown, Jr. brings nearly five decades of experience as a business attorney to his role as an of counsel attorney at Warner Norcross, which is one of the largest law firms in Michigan. Kevin M. McCarthy joins the firm as a partner, bringing more than 30 years of labor and employment law experience to Warner Norcross.

The 15-member Kalamazoo office has also completed its move to 8,000 square feet of office space at 401 E. Michigan Ave. Meticulously restored by owner-architect Jon Stryker, Warner's new offices feature 20 offices and two conference rooms on the second and third floors of the building that is now home to the popular Food Dance.

Ric Brown concentrates his practice on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate governance and corporate finance. He joins the firm from Miller Canfield PLC, where he served as senior counsel.

He has been a trusted advisor to numerous corporations and privately held companies in a wide variety of industries, as well as financial institutions, holding companies and a venture capital firm. He serves as general counsel to a local family-owned business, assisting with the transition to the second and third generations of leadership.

Active professionally and in the community, Brown has served in numerous leadership roles for the American Bar Association and the State Bar of Michigan. He is recognized as a Best Lawyer in America and a Michigan Super Lawyer.

Brown has also served on the boards of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo numerous businesses. He is a past appointee to the board of Michigan Jobs Commission.

Brown holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and his doctor of jurisprudence from the University of Michigan Law School.

Kevin McCarthy concentrates his practice on representing employers on labor and employment law matters, with a focus on collective bargaining, arbitration, litigation, advice on legal compliance and litigation avoidance, training and related issues. He brings 35 years of legal experience to his new role with Warner, primarily representing clients in Southwest Michigan, but also throughout Michigan and other states. Prior to joining Warner Norcross, he was the managing partner of McCarthy Smith Law Group, PLC, a law firm he founded in 2003.

McCarthy has also held a number of leadership positions with the American Bar Association and the State Bar of Michigan. He serves as legislative representative of the Kalamazoo Human Resource Management Association and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management. Additionally, he is a past board chair and past legal counsel for the Kalamazoo Regional Chamber of Commerce.

He has been recognized as a Michigan Super Lawyer and has been inducted as a Fellow in the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.

A graduate of Leadership Kalamazoo, McCarthy is active in the Kalamazoo community, serving on the boards of the Kalamazoo RESA Foundation and Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Southwest Michigan. He has also served on the boards of the Kalamazoo Regional Chamber Foundation and Goodwill Industries of Southwest Michigan, among others.

McCarthy holds a bachelor of arts degree from Kalamazoo College and his doctor of jurisprudence from the University of Michigan Law School.
