Dental Implants Improve Patient Smiles In The Upper West Side

Dr. Joseph Lattinelli, Upper West Side dentist, replaces missing teeth with dental implants for improved smiles

NEW YORK, NY, September 01, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Missing teeth can take a toll on a person's confidence and ability to properly eat. While losing a tooth is not always avoidable, Dr. Joseph Lattinelli, Upper East Side dentist, is available to help patients who have gaps in their teeth regain their smiles. When teeth are missing, Dr. Lattinelli offers patients on the Upper West Side, NY, dental implants to replace gaps in their smile

"People who have lost teeth may feel too self-conscious to smile, or even talk. Biting irregularities can also develop due to tooth loss, which leads to poor eating habits and secondary health problems, such as malnutrition. It is important to replace missing teeth, which is why I am happy to continue to offer dental implants as the best option," said Dr. Joseph Lattinelli, dentist in Upper East Side.

Before placing dental implants, Dr. Lattinelli will assess a patient's bone density. If there is not enough bone or significant bone loss has occurred, a patient might need bone grafting before the implant is placed. Once a patient is assessed for proper bone density, Dr. Kauffman will explain the treatment plan. Next, Dr. Latinelli will select the appropriate implant system and size of the implant before it is surgically placed.

As the implant is securely placed into a patient's jawbone, a protective screw cover or cap will be placed over the implant, and then the gum tissue is sutured over the top. The patient's dental implant is then left to heal for approximately six months, which is a process called osseointegration. During this process, the bone tissue around the implant grows onto the roughened surface of the implant so that it effectively becomes part of the jawbone and can securely hold a restoration in place. After healing is complete, the screw cover is removed and an abutment is placed on the implant, which serves as an anchorage point to securely hold a restoration in place.
