Spring Cleaning Tips Can Help Sell Home, Says Bahamas Real Estate Expert

Following these spring cleaning tips can mean the difference between a home that languishes on the market and one that promptly sells.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS, June 19, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Bahamas real estate Broker Rachel Pinder has identified the top five steps a homeowner who has listed their Bahamas real estate for sale can take to put the home's best face forward to potential buyers.

1. Clean Interior Walls
Smoke dust and even grease from the kitchen can create buildup on interior walls. Tackle the dinginess with all-purpose cleaner and some warm water. Resist the urge to "spot treat" noticeably dirty wall areas. This will only make the rest of the uncleaned surfaces look worse, said the Nassau Bahamas Rentals specialist.

2. Pressure Wash
It isn't always feasible to repaint the exterior of a home you're attempting to sell, but giving it a good cleaning is the next best thing, said Pinder, principal broker of the Bahamas Realty agency Island Living Real Estate. Pressure washers can be rented from home improvement stores.

"While you're at it, don't forget to hit your concrete surfaces, including driveways and sidewalks," Pinder said. "You'll be amazed at how clean they can be."

3. Clean The Garage
A garage isn't just a space to park the vehicles at night anymore. These days, they serve as an extra children's play area and double as "man caves." Clean out the cobwebs, sweep away the leaves and don't be afraid of putting a fresh coat of paint on the walls.

4. Wash Windows
If you've ever made the claim that you "don't do windows," selling your home is the time to get over that.

"It may not be an enjoyable task, but clean windows really help make a home look more appealing to a potential buyer," Pinder said.

It's particularly important to clean French or sliding glass, she said, adding that the better view a seller can provide to potential buyers, the happier they will be.

5. Shed Some Light On It
This time of year, dark, cavelike rooms aren't inviting to a buyer. Replace draperies that block out light with lightweight alternatives. The additional light makes those who enter feel welcome because it adds warmth to the room.
