Read Labels Carefully for Ingredients that Can Make You Fat

Look at food labels these days - do you see anything you don't understand? According to a food industry insider there are over 15,000 different chemicals are in our processed food on grocery shelves today.

DEMING, NM, September 08, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- We are told by doctors that we should read the labels for portions and practice portion control, but we need to do much more. We need to read labels to know what is in the processed food to avoid the chemicals that cause obesity.

One such chemical is MSG or monosodium glutamate. Processed MSG is put in Chinese food to make it taste better. Some people have had such violent reactions to manufactured MSG that they do not dine at Chinese restaurants. Research has proven that manufactured MSG is dangerous because it alters the chemicals in our brains and causes the nerves to die. Manufactured MSG is not regulated by the FDA because, according to them, it is eliminated from our system by the liver (this has not been confirmed by reliable research). Documented research has proven that other chemicals in processed food cause the immune system to attack them, allowing the processed MSG to poison the brain. Since processed MSG is on the GRAS (generally accepted as safe) list, the FDA does not regulate it or any of its associated names to be limited. In fact, manufactured MSG can be found on food labels under several of its 40 plus names.

The FDA states that since glutamate is found in nature then monosodium glutamate is safe. This is true. Glutamate is found in abundance in tomatoes and mothers' milk. Glutamate is an amino acid, one of the necessary building blocks for protein. Glutamate is also necessary because it excites the neurons in our brain causing it to function properly. However, when manufactured MSG is ingested in large amounts it becomes a toxin. Too much monosodium glutamate will cause the neurons to remain in an excited state and they will never shut down. When they don't shut down they will die causing damage, specifically to the hypothalamus.

The hypothalamus is the part of the brain that regulates food storage, metabolism, and hunger. When it becomes damaged the wrong signals are sent to the various glands and organs that carry out these functions. For example; the pancreas produces insulin that converts the sugar into fat which is stored in locked places like the highs and hips. This is a wrong signal because the body needs the calories for heat or for the muscles. When the body is lacking the calories it demands more food. The person then eats more food than normal because they feel hungry. The brain (namely the hypothalamus) sends out wrong signals again to the pancreas and the process is repeated over and over. The stored fat is locked away resulting in gained weight and obesity. The body never goes into the locked stored fat because the hypothalamus is not sending right signals to use that fat.

If a person is eating processed food laden with toxic chemicals and manufactured MSG then two damaging processes are occurring: 1) the body is continuing to be poisoned and 2) the brain, namely the hypothalamus, is continuing to send the wrong messages. The person continues to get fatter until obesity occurs and is unable to lose the fat with dieting and exercise. Not knowing what is happening to their body, a person often gives up trying to lose weight. Therefore, in order to lose unwanted pounds and overcome obesity the hypothalamus must be healed so that it can work normally and the person must stop eating processed food (including fast food, diet sodas, and items listed as low fat).

It is imperative that everyone read the labels on food. If the label contains chemical sounding names (or words you can't pronounce) avoid it. Take control of your own health by being informed. See www.obesitydiseasecenter.com for more information on how to heal the hypothalamus.
