Survivor Contestant Mookie Lee Sees Past Doubts About LASIK

After wearing contacts for most of his adult life, former Survivor Fiji 2007 contestant and Chicago native Mookie Lee obtained LASIK eye surgery from Dr. Mark Golden, overcoming his initial uncertainty about the procedure.

CHICAGO, IL, February 25, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Survivor Fiji 2007 contestant Mookie Lee has set aside his contacts for good after receiving LASIK eye surgery from Dr. Mark Golden's Doctors For Visual Freedom Laser Center. Despite certain fears about the surgery process, Lee went through with the procedure, and finds himself free to engage more fully in the sports and athletics that made him such an effective contestant on the reality show.

"I initially thought it was a procedure that could have potentially horrible effects," says Lee, now 30. "I've heard certain things, but actually, after getting it done it's amazing. It's weird not having to put my fingers in my eyes to take contacts out. To be able to see at all points of the day is amazing."

Lee is one of thousands of people nationwide who have considered getting LASIK eye surgery for years before finally taking the plunge. Worries about complications and potential risks have prevented many patients from trusting the technology, despite the coveted opportunity to abandon their glasses and contacts.

However, ophthalmologists like Dr. Mark Golden leave no stone unturned when it comes to ensuring their patients are ideal candidates. Common misconceptions about the dangers of LASIK are thoroughly explained on his website, as well as during the free LASIK screenings he provides to patients.

"You know, I was considering getting LASIK at some point in the future," Lee says. "But getting it from Dr. Golden and his staff, who were unbelievable and treated me like family... it was very exciting and exhilarating. Especially having it at the end of the year, when I'm playing sports and going snowboarding."

The safety and effectiveness of LASIK eye surgery has come a long way since its initial development in the late 80's and 90's. Today, advancements in techniques and the use of Custom WaveFront technology have allowed many patients to experience better vision than the best pair of glasses or contacts can provide. Additionally, patients like Lee generally undergo an accelerated healing process, free to return to normal activities - such as driving - the day after surgery.

When asked what he would say to someone "afraid" to have LASIK surgery, Lee responded without any doubts: "You should get it."
