Shopping Helps Bring Clean Water to Communities in Africa

One night of shopping and music to help raise $10,000 to build a well and bring safe drinking water to 5,000 people.



    LONG ISLAND CITY, NY, April 29, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Aurora Gallery in Long Island City has teamed up with E.P.I.C (Everyday People Initiating Change), an Astoria based non-profit, for an evening of shopping and live entertainment to raise money to bring safe, clean water the developing world. The event coined "For Momma" will take place Friday May 6th from 5pm to 10pm. The event will feature vintage garments as art installations which will also be available for purchase and live musical entertainment from local musicians. The event is free to the public with proceeds from sales going to E.P.I.C.

"The goal of The Aurora Gallery is become a cultural Mecca for all types of art, no matter the medium, for the masses interact with," said Eli Rios Owner of The Aurora Gallery. "With 'For Momma' we are able to merge fashion with music and support E.P.I.C. with their efforts."

The first part of the evening will be dedicated to shopping for the cause. 'For Momma' is an opportunity to purchase a one-of-a kind vintage item for a Mother's Day present or a gift for yourself. Astoria Vintage has supplied nearly one hundred genuine vintage items for purchase. The items range from scarves, shoes and clothes to jewelry, chinaware and magazines. Several of the items will be turned into pieces of art work and framed on the Gallery walls as homage to fashion as art. The second part of the event will focus on the music.

The talent is an eclectic array of local musicians all of whom have donated their time to entertain the evening's guests. Rasheeda Wallace is a soul stirring artist who has won Apollo 3 consecutive times. Micah Burgess is a versatile guitarist and composer whose credits include Cirque Du Soleil's "Banana Shpeel" and the off-Broadway production of "Tomorrow Morning. Josue Perez is a world-traveled flamenco guitarist and composer and a recipient of the MCAF Award for his album GUITARRAZON. Co-Founder of E.P.I.C. and singer Tennile Amor will end the evening with original songs written about her and co-founding partner Alexi Panos experiences working in Africa.

"To them water is like gold. It is the best gift you can give," said Tennille. "What is so great about our generation is that we are so much more aware of what needs to be done in the world."

The event will incorporate several raffles and opportunities for guests to donate to E.P.I.C.
