NonProfit Organization Helps Meet the Needs of The Disabled Community

Sometimes learning a few lessons about being disabled is the best way to offer services to the disabled community yourself.



    /24-7PressRelease/ - STATEN ISLAND, NY, January 13, 2007 - Helping Hands Initiative Incorporated offers a variety of services to individuals with special needs. Services include child advocacy, medical insurance assistance and physical exam assistance, referral and advisory services, housing assistance, interview assistance, scholarship services and a Music Lessons Program The individuals who will benefit from the referral service offered by Helping Hand Initiative Incorporated include but not limited to infants, children, teens, adults and senior citizens with special needs.

The Child Advocacy Program ran by Helping Hands Initiative Incorporated helps parents fight for their rights of their children in a school setting. This includes attempting to resolve conflicts before mediation or a court hearing takes place. To begin the process, we make sure parents understand what Special Education is, what Special Education Services are available for their child based upon the child's needs, how a child should be taught in an environment that is not restrictive, what the requirements are for a child to be considered eligible for Special Education, how a child's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) should be created so a child can achieve academic success, Parental rights to file a hearing, mediation and Alternative Education options if a hearing is not successful.

If a client needs help completing and filing medical insurance applications including private insurance carriers as well as Medicare the staff at Helping Hands Initiative Incorporated will also assist with the medical insurance applications. If a client of Helping Hands Initiative Incorporated is required to attend a physical examination, then a staff member of Helping Hand Initiative Incorporated will accompany the client to the physical examination and help the client fill out the necessary paperwork so the physical examination can be completed.

The referral service offered by Helping Hands Initiative Incorporated helps find resources that fit the individual needs of each client. Once the proper resources are located for an individual, an advisory service will be offered to each individual based upon their needs.

Helping Hands Initiative Incorporated's advisory service will help individuals prepare applications that will help them become as independent as possible in society. Individuals will be assisted with applications such as insurance, Social Security Benefits and hospital applications. Assistance with obtaining mobility devices such as wheelchairs and walkers will also be provided. Follow-ups with both the clients and individual organizations will be completed to be sure satisfaction is achieved.
Staff working for Helping Hands Initiative Incorporated will travel within the New York City Area to help individuals obtain services needed to gain independence. Travel includes but not limited to meeting clients of Helping Hands Initiative Incorporated at Social Security Administration to file for benefits and at a medical office to help fill out paperwork for medical services.

What makes the referral service and the advisory service of Helping Hands Initiative Incorporated unique is the customized service that each client would receive starting with initial needs of the individual, then researching the information needed to help individuals fulfill their goals and the assistance provided by the staff at Helping Hands Initiative Incorporated to fill out and file the proper documentation so the needs of client's associated with Helping Hands Initiative Incorporated are met. There is no fee charged to the client's of Helping Hands Initiative Incorporated but donations would be greatly appreciated.

That housing assistance offered helps individuals with disabilities obtain affordable housing through several programs. Resolution for solving tenant/landlord disputes is also offered. The assistance that will be provided includes one-on-one practice interviews between a member of the Helping Hands Initiative staff and the client. Once the practice interview is completed, then a staff member from Helping Hands Initiative Incorporated will assist the client by attending the client's personal or telephone interview with a member of the Social Security Administration. After the interview with a member of the Social Security Administration is completed a physical examination with a physician that represents the Social Security Administration may be required.

The scholarship services provided by Helping Hands Initiative Incorporated help disabled individuals take advantage of higher education for as little to no cost as possible based upon financial status. Help with forms for Scholarships and Financial Aid are provide. The help with the forms are based upon the individual needs of each client. Options are discussed when client needs are evaluated.

The music lessons program provided by Helping Hands Initiative Incorporated teaches individuals musical instruments by incorporating basic music theory concepts as well as ear and vocal training.
