Virtual Training is Increasing as Economy Slows

With the easy availability of virtual meeting platforms, more and more companies are rolling out training that their attendees can take right from their desks.

BRISTOL, CT, September 08, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- With the economy still suffering, organizations are hesitant to undertake the expense of bringing people together for meetings and training events. However, the best organizations know that well-trained employees are vital to their continued and long-term success. As a result, virtual training platforms, also known as synchronous platforms, are being used more and more to bring together far-flung employees for training purposes.

The Training Doctor, an instructional design firm based on the East coast of the United States, assists companies in delivering training to their employees via these virtual training spaces. "Currently we are conducting training for an organization based in Connecticut, but our attendees are from North Carolina, Ohio, Colorado, the Philippines and India," stated Dr. Nanette Miner, company founder. "Without a virtual training platform there is no way these workers would be able to get together for a training session. In addition to being located around the globe, these workers, like so many others, are working at maximum capacity and truly would not be able to get away from their offices to attend an in-person event," she adds.

While virtual training platforms have taken hold in the US, and their use is growing rapidly in Europe and Asia, many organizations are not using them to their best ability. "Unfortunately, we see a lot of one-way communication when these mediums are used," says Miner. In other words, "talking heads" presenting information. "The interaction and collaboration abilities of synchronous training platforms is astounding," says Miner. "I've often heard a learner say 'wow, this is just like a real class,' yet most presenters and designers of learning just don't know how to best utilize the tools for training purposes. That's why we've developed a course, delivered via a synchronous technology, of course, titled Instructional Design for the Synchronous Environment. It teaches trainers and organizations how to transfer their classroom based learning to online learning in a way that is effective and actionable by the learner."

The next offering of Instructional Design for the Synchronous Environment begins Wednesday, September 14, 2011. The three-session certificate will explain the design approach of a synchronous class, the creation of synchronous-appropriate materials, and provide a variety of concrete examples and templates. "Our company motto, at The Training Doctor, is "we make training better," for the learner, the facilitator and the organization as a whole. This course is designed to assist trainers who are designing and delivering for web delivery, to create the best training offerings possible," says Miner.
