    SEATTLE, WA, September 28, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Getting through difficult moments in therapy can be challenging for mental health professionals, especially when emotions interfere with responding effectively. Now, thanks to a new, highly interactive online learning course, clinicians can successfully identify and respond to behaviors that interfere with treatment.

In "Transforming Difficult Moments in Therapy: Effective Strategies with Dr. Marsha Linehan and other DBT Experts," Behavioral Tech's newest online training course, mental health professionals can prepare to face these moments more effectively and with greater compassion.

Transforming Difficult Moments features four hours of engaging content taught by Marsha Linehan, Ph.D., ABPP, who is widely known as the treatment developer of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which is recognized as the leading treatment approach for individuals with severe, difficult-to-treat disorders. Founded by Dr. Linehan, Behavioral Tech trains mental health care providers and treatment teams who work with complex and severely disordered populations to use compassionate, scientifically valid treatments, and to implement and evaluate these treatments in their practice setting.

About the Course
The new online course specifically focuses on problematic behaviors that make it extremely difficult (if not impossible) to provide therapy. This course teaches clinicians how to manage behaviors that interfere with the client receiving therapy, as well as behaviors that burn out therapists when these behaviors occur in individual therapy/counseling, individual case management, and one-on-one counseling sessions.

This online learning course is designed for any mental health professional who has a general understanding of cognitive behavior therapy and allows the clinician to train when they want, where they want, and practice in a risk-free environment as they learn strategies that can be immediately applied to a practice. The course features:

- Simulated conversations with client's common responses and behaviors;
- Interactive practice of phrases, tones, and styles;
- Eight DBT experts responding to a variety of common therapy interfering behaviors;
- An engaging learning environment with striking graphics; and,
- Ten hours of Continuing Education credits.

Specific course topics include: Theory and assumptions in Therapy Interfering Behaviors (TIBs); Basic steps in responding to TIBs; Keeping the intervention from back-firing by paying attention to style; and, Managing emotions when they interfere with treating TIBs (therapist desire to avoid, anger, judgmentalness, etc.)

"I was doing TIB with a specific client and was able to renegotiate in session this very week a new therapy contract being more specific about target behaviors, and where my limits really were at...and [used] language about how this was hooking her to work on the target when it was clear the client wasn't ready to do so....was so VERY freeing.....And it WORKED!!!!!
