Parents Beware of School Bus Accidents and How to Protect Their Kids

Don't get caught riding a bus, until you understand your legal rights and how to avoid bus collisions. Read this educational report to learn more about your legal rights.

LOS ANGELES, CA, June 07, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Los Angeles bus accident attorneys at Ehline Law Firm PC, cite several recent bus accidents that have caused numerous injuries and deaths. These are just the latest bus crashes, and attorney Michael P. Ehline, Esq., believes that bus accident victims and their families should be aware that they have legal rights to hold the negligent party responsible. In some bus accidents this can be the bus driver, whose actions cause the bus accident, but in other cases another driver or the bus company, or even the government were at fault. (Learn More Here: www.ehlinelaw.com.) Although seat belts are not required on California school buses, "at least one court has held that a jury has the right to determine if there should have been seat belts aboard", said Ehline. Ehline went on to say that the best way to avoid bus accidents is to not ride a bus at all. But when that cannot be avoided, said Ehline, parents and families need to protect their legal rights.

Bus accident victims deserve to have their legal rights protected and to recover compensation. The bus accidents that Los Angeles Ehline Law Firm, PC attorneys have seen that caused both injuries and death include:

1. According to ABC News, a school bus in Indianapolis, on March 12, 2012, was carrying 50 students that were between the ages of 5 and 16. The bus driver struck a concrete bridge abutment. The bus was transporting students to the Lighthouse Charter School in Indianapolis, at the time it crashed. The bus driver who was killed in the accident, was a 60 year old that authorities have not determined if a heart attack or other medical emergency was responsible for the crash, or if the bus driver was distracted. One 5 year old student was killed during this crash and two others were critically injured. A 911 operator received a call that the bus crashed into a bridge and the driver was down.

2. On the same date, Huffington Post reported that Quincy Washington was the scene of another school bus crash that involved the bus being involved in a rollover crash. There was one student critically injured and three others seriously injured. The bus driver was also injured in the crash and hospitalized. Authorities have said that drugs, alcohol and weather were not factors in the bus rollover crash. (Learn About School Bus Law Here.)

These both were school bus accidents, which involved injuries to children and young teenagers, but they are not the only type of bus crashes that occur.

There are also accidents that involve Charter, Metro and Greyhound buses that cause serious and fatal injuries to the adult passengers, that have trusted the bus company and bus driver to safely transport them to work and home, on daily errands or on longer trips.

Attorney Michael Ehline, of the Ehline Law Firm, PC said it is vital to consult an experienced bus accident attorney, when you have been injured in a bus accident or a loved one has been killed. His reasons are simple, they include:

1. The bus company and bus driver have a duty to keep the passengers as safe as reasonably possible.
2. The injured victim or the family that lost a loved one have the right to hold the negligent party or parties responsible for their actions and recover compensation for the damages.
3. Attempting to hold the bus driver, another driver or bus company alone, without legal counsel is difficult at best and will result in a much lower settlement.
4. The law limits the time the bus accident injury victim or the family that has lost a loved one has to file a legal claim.

The idea is to know your rights and remain as safe as possible. Parents need to be aware of school bus accidents and the ways, both before and after, of protecting their families. Now they have a fighting chance thanks to this great information from a real lawyer.
