Dr. Kimberly A. Weaver Recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Science and Research

Dr. Kimberly A. Weaver is an expert on the region of spacetime known as a black hole

SILVER SPRING, MARYLAND, August 23, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Kimberly A. Weaver, Astrophysicist for National Aeronautics and Space Administration, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in science and research.

With 18 years of professional experience, Dr. Weaver is noted in her field for her adroitness in the study of black holes and active galaxies. For the past 14 years she has held the position of astrophysicist with the globally recognized NASA, a federal agency dedicated to exploration, technology development and scientific research. On a daily basis, she is tasked with writing research papers and proposals, conducting public outreach and working with the press office on press releases. In addition, Dr. Weaver is tasked with overseeing graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.

As science can be a profession rife with jargon and technically daunting terms, Dr. Weaver attributes her success to her ability to communicate. As a child, she grew up looking at the stars from her home through a telescope she received as a present. When she embarked on her college journey, she earned a bachelor's degree in physics from West Virginia University, followed that with a master's degree in x-ray astrophysics from the University of Maryland College Park in 1991, and ultimately earned a Ph.D. in x-ray astrophysics from the University of Maryland College Park in 1993. She is a member of the American Astronomical Society, the American Physical Society, and the International Astronomical Union. She has received the Presidential Early Career Award in 1996, and has been honored as a member of the West Virginia University Academy of Distinguished Alumni (2011), an alumni of the University of Maryland Astronomy Department (2009) and an alumni of the West Virginia University Eberly College of Arts and Sciences (2007).
