Dallas Exotic Car Club Offers Pope Free Car Club Membership

Local Entrepreneur Gives Gift On Behalf of Exotic Car Drivers Worldwide

/24-7PressRelease/ - DALLAS, TX, July 12, 2007 - No one should ever doubt that Pope Benedict XVI is a man of his convictions. In a country where owning and driving some of the best cars in the world is a national pastime, the Pope condemned the ownership of exotic cars in his "Guidelines for the Pastoral Care of the Road."

The 36-page document deals with everything from rude gestures to road rage, but the hottest controversy surrounds the Vatican's position that exotic cars "...lend themselves to being used by their owners to show off, and as a means for outshining other people and arousing feelings of envy."

A Ferrari spokesperson responded that that owning a Ferrari was not, in his estimation, a sin and, even if it were, he indicated, "...you should commit one from time to time."

"I've gotten marketing help for our Car Club from a lot of places, but I never expected it from the Vatican," says Dallas entrepreneur and DFW Elite Car Club owner, Ron Sturgeon. "The Pope is a very well respected religious leader, and devout Catholics who are car enthusiasts may start searching for ways to enjoy exotic cars without owning them."

Sturgeon's 12-month-old exotic car club allows members to share over fifty exotic and luxury cars without assuming any of the obligations of ownership. The car club's original collection was drawn from cars Sturgeon accumulated during a thirty-year career in the automotive industry.

"As a lifelong car enthusiast, I appreciate the efforts of the designers of a company like Ferrari. I love to drive performance cars, and I admire the skills of the artisans who create the best cars in the world," says Sturgeon, "For me, driving exotic cars is not about envy, it's about appreciation," says the Dallas-based entrepreneur.

"At the same time, I admire the Pope for standing firm on his convictions. To show him that it is possible to drive exotic cars without the risks—moral or financial—of owning them, I would like to give him the gift of a membership in our club. Whenever he comes to the States, we'll be happy to make sure he has something he'll really enjoy driving, even if he only needs it from time to time."

"Perhaps our gift will not persuade him to see driving exotic cars they way the people who enjoy them do," says Sturgeon "but he deserves our respect and our thanks for his efforts to make the road better for everyone. The gift is just my way of expressing that. I hope he will take me up on it."
