JK Harris helps settle Virginia woman's IRS debt for just $10

JK Harris helps Virginia woman negotiate Offer in Compromise with IRS for $10.

Bonnie Lerman was in over her head when it came to her IRS debt.

/24-7PressRelease/ - NORTH CHARLESTON, SC, November 04, 2007 - Luckily, the IRS' Offer in Compromise program is designed to help taxpayers in Lerman's situation by allowing them to resolve their debt by accepting less than full payment, under certain financial circumstances.

Lerman, of Sterling, VA, owed the IRS $52,719 when she came to JK Harris and Company for help in negotiating an Offer with the IRS. The North Charleston-based company is the nation's largest tax resolution firm and assisted Lerman in proving to the IRS she could not pay the entire balance. As a result, the IRS accepted her Offer of just $10.

"After three years of trying to pay off my debt to the IRS, it became clear that the combination of interest, late penalties and assorted other fees which were added to my balance on a monthly basis accumulated at such a rate that my payments would never settle claims made on me by the IRS," Lerman said.

"I contacted JK Harris in an effort to resolve the matter," added Lerman. "The organization provided guidance, insight and support that reduced the amount claimed by the IRS, and as a result has cleared my good name."

Lerman's problem arose from not withholding enough taxes on dissipated assets. She was on an Installment Agreement with the IRS but became unemployed and could no longer make the monthly payments. She attempted to get an Offer in Compromise accepted on her own in 2005, but it was rejected.

After contracting with JK Harris and submitting a new Offer, the IRS was relentless in requesting updated documentation and explanations of how the dissipated assets were used.

"The Offer Examiner kept asking for the same information over and over," said Lerman's Case Specialist at JK Harris. "One day, she (Lerman) finally broke down and told me she didn't want to continue with the Offer ... After calming her down, she realized she wanted to continue in the fight."

After two more months of submitting requested documentation to the IRS, Lerman's Offer was finally accepted.

"I would recommend anyone experiencing similar difficulties with the IRS to contact the JK Harris team in order to eliminate the fear and anxiety created by the aggressiveness of the IRS," Lerman said.
