Debbie M. Schaum Recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Meteorology Education

Debbie M. Schaum brings real-life applications to a meteorology, aviation and aerospace curriculum.

    ORMOND BEACH, FL, May 28, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Debbie M. Schaum, an Associate Professor for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in meteorology education.

Ms. Schaum previously served the U.S. Air Force; her primary responsibility was working as a meteorologist. Over the course of her career, she endeavored to open the doors of aviation and meteorology to women, who are traditionally under-represented in this field. Ms. Schaum accomplished this by acting as a role model, reaching out to middle school children and giving them an introduction into the field.

For the past 18 years, Ms. Schaum has provided exemplary education as an associate professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. With expertise in aviation and meteorology, she is responsible for teaching aviation meteorology courses totalling 12 credit hours per semester. The classes are primarily focused on aviation and the weather. Furthermore, she creates curricula for students that brings real-life applications to the university, with a program focusing on weather for air crews.

Ms. Schaum attributes her success to joining the U.S. Air Force. She was a member of the ROTC Headquarters and managed scholarship programs for students. She has an innate understanding of students' needs and reaches out to the middle school students to explain the real world benefits of math and science, always keeping in mind the importance of her field.

Ms. Schaum received a master's degree in management from Webster University and a Bachelor of Science in atmospheric sciences from the University of Missouri, Columbia. She serves as a volunteer to elementary, middle and high school students, introducing them to the benefits of being a meteorologist. She is also a volunteer mentor for foreign exchange students, foster children and the physically challenged.
