Brookline Dermatologist Provides Laser Tattoo Removal

Dr. Alan Rockoff uses lasers to help patients cover tattoos they might regret.



    BROOKLINE, MA, July 16, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Brookline patients who have regrets about a particular tattoo can see their skin in a new light, thanks to laser therapy at the office of Dr. Alan Rockoff. At The Rockoff Center for Dermatology Laser & Skin Surgery, Dr. Rockoff utilizes laser treatments to break up the pigments in a tattoo, helping to make it disappear with time.

"Laser tattoo removal treatments have come a long way, even in the past five years," explains Dr. Rockoff, a Brookline laser tattoo removal specialist. "Even patients whose tattoos were not effectively removed by other treatments may see results with today's laser therapies."

An estimated 10 percent of the United States population has a tattoo -- and half of this population may consider removal at some point in their lives, according to WebMD. Laser therapy is an option in tattoo removal because exposure to the laser's light breaks up the pigments under the skin, making the tattoo disappears. Certain tattoo colors can be more difficult to remove than others. Dr. Rockoff consults with each patient to determine the appropriate laser wavelength for tattoo removal.

The process and time frame to remove a tattoo depends upon each patient's skin and the tattoo type and size. Laser tattoo removal can take several sessions at Dr. Rockoff's Brookline, MA office to be most effective.

During the procedure, you will wear a protective eye shield. A numbing cream will be applied to the skin where the tattoo will be removed. This reduces painful sensations during the removal process. The laser is set over the tattoo and pulses of light are delivered. The pulses can feel different to different people. The standard analogy is that the laser feels like a rubber band being snapped against the skin.

After each laser tattoo session, the client is instructed to keep his or her skin out of the sun. Also, a soothing antibiotic ointment or ice pack can be applied immediately after to minimize pain and swelling. After about six to eight weeks, a patient can return for an additional tattoo removal session. Over time, the tattoo will begin to fade until it is virtually undetectable. This can take anywhere from 6 to 10 treatment sessions to be most effective.
