Federal Way Chiropractor Helps Patients Find Relief From Neck Pain

Dr. Andrew Winger and Dr. Frank Rossi treat acute neck injuries and chronic neck pain at Redondo Family Chiropractic Inc.

FEDERAL WAY, WA, July 19, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The neck joints or cervical spine have many responsibilities: supporting a head that typically weighs about 12 pounds and twisting and turning in multiple directions. The neck's complexity and range of movement make it vulnerable to injuries and chronic conditions, including whiplash, degenerative disc disease and osteoarthritis. At Redondo Family Chiropractic, Inc., Dr. Andrew Winger treats neck injuries and other disorders to help patients find relief from chronic neck pain.

While each patient's pain experience and symptom set is different, some signs a patient should seek chiropractic care for neck pain include neck pain that extends into the upper back and arms, loss of range of motion in the neck, after a car injury or other accident and pain that has worsened instead of improving.

"Neck pain can stem from a number of causes, and a thorough evaluation is vital to ensuring chiropractic care can help a patient," explains Dr. Winger, a Federal Way chiropractor. "When patients first come to my office, I will gather a full medical history as well as conduct a physical exam and potentially use imaging studies."

While Dr. Winger treats most neck pain causes, he does not treat neck pain related to meningitis or due to a fractured spinal bone or herniated disc. These conditions can represent medical emergencies.

Dr. Winger treats neck pain using spinal adjustments. This means using his hands to exert gentle forces onto the spine. These forces can restore a joint to its rightful position or serve to loosen a joint placing pressure on a nerve in the spinal column. A study published in the March/April 2007 issue of the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found patients undergoing chiropractic care for neck pain showed significant improvements in pain, including in the 12 weeks after treatments were concluded.

In addition to in-office adjustments, Dr. Winger may also recommend at-home exercises or massage therapy to further enhance strength and mobility in the neck joint.

"Neck pain can be a debilitating symptom and keep people from working and living at their best," says Dr. Winger, a Federal Way chiropractor. "I'm proud to help patients reduce their pain, restore range of motion, and recover from chronic neck pain that has plagued them for some time."
