Tom's Hardware Gets a Firsthand Look at DTI Glasses-Free 3D/2D Technology

Solid review seen as boost to Kickstarter campaign.

We demo for experts in the industry; people whose job it is to sort the real from the fake. And when it comes to technology, there's no tougher experts than the editors of Tom's Hardware.

ROCHESTER, NY, December 04, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- When you claim to have solved a riddle that has left the giants in the display industry scratching their heads; skepticism is going to run pretty high. Overcoming that skepticism is a mission that Dimension Technologies Inc. (Rochester, NY) is on with their current Kickstarter Campaign (http://kck.st/1FglQRL).

So when Tom's Hardware Senior Editor Don Woligroski sat down to view the DTI demo at Immersed, it was a moment of truth for the company. His article, "What we saw at Immersed: The Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Event" was published on December 1, 2014 on tomshardware.com. http://www.tomshardware.com/news/immersed-vr-ar-conference,28136.html

"The DTI demo is reviewed about two-thirds of the way down; and while we can't tell you what the article said here without incurring licensing fees, we can tell you that after we read it, we felt good," said Tom Curtin, DTI Director of Business Development.

"That's why we take our displays to shows like SIGGRAPH 2014 Vancouver and Immersed in Toronto. We demo for experts in the industry; people whose job it is to sort the real from the fake. And when it comes to technology, there's no tougher experts than the editors of Tom's Hardware," Curtin added.

"We get it. It's hard for people to believe that this small company from Rochester, NY has out-invented the big guys. But when it comes to glasses-free 3D/2D displays, that's what DTI has been doing for more than 25 years for organizations such as NASA and the U.S. Departments of Defense and Energy," said Curtin.

DTI CEO Arnie Lagergren explained why the timing is right for glasses-free 3D/2D displays. "High-performance LCDs combined with an explosion in 3D content from games, movies and Big Data are driving renewed interest; and price points for our technology are now reaching mass market thresholds. As an example, our 19-inch display which we demoed at Immersed and SIGGRAPH first came out in 2006 with a price of $1600 (USD). Now we can offer a 27-inch monitor with 120Hz refresh rates, 5 times the brightness and true 1920 x 1080p resolution in 3D and 2D, with eye tracking to remove the sweet spot limitations for under $1,000. We think that's a strong value proposition that can get people excited about glasses-free 3D at home and in the workplace."
