Dr. Renata Egone Cathou Honored for Excellence in Chemistry & Consulting

Retired chemist Dr. Renata Egone Cathou now focuses on photographic collections management and archiving



    LEXINGTON, MA, September 30, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Renata Egone Cathou has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Since 2001, Dr. Cathou has focused on photographic collections management and archiving. She is also active with the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works. A retired chemist and consultant, Dr. Cathou has long been passionate about photography and the fine arts. She is a past member of the board of overseers for the Boston Opera House, and a member of the Japanese Art Society of America and the Maple Society.

Dr. Cathou holds a Ph.D. and a Bachelor of Science, both from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She completed a fellowship in chemistry and worked as a research associate through the school as well. Early in her career, she served as a research associate and instructor at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. In the 1970s, Dr. Cathou advanced from assistant professor to full professor in the Department of Biochemistry at Tufts University School of Medicine.

From 1983 to 2000, Dr. Cathou was the president of Technical Evaluations in Lexington, Mass. She also served as a senior consultant for SRC Associates in Park Ridge, N.J. from 1984 to 1993. Outside of her professional positions, Dr. Cathou held a number of career-related roles over the years. She was a senior investigator for the Arthritis Foundation for five years and a visiting professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Los Angeles for a year. She was a member of the National Science Foundation's member advisory panel, as well as the National Cancer Institute's board of scientific counselors. She was also co-founder of Clinical Assays, Inc., Cambridge, MA, the first company to produce complete radioimmunoassay kits for measurement of digitoxin in blood.

Dr. Cathou's professional affiliations include the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and the American Association of Immunologists. She has contributed chapters to books and articles to professional journals in her field. In addition to a number of formal honors that Dr. Cathou has received over the years, including the M.I.T. Company Founders Award, she was chosen to be featured in the 46th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America, the 1st through 12th editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, the 16th and 24th editions of Who's Who in the World, the 16th through 28th editions of Who's Who of American Women, and several editions of Who's Who in the East.
