She Was Looking for a Hat, but Discovered a Plot for a Novel - Historical Fiction Novelist Finds Story Ideas in Vintage Shops

International Book Award finalist's second novel to hit stores on June 19

On June 19, Hall releases The Silver Shoes, sparkling tale about pair of vintage shoes worn by a fallen debutante-turned-burlesque dancer in NY's Roarin' Twenties and a modern-day struggling artist

SAN DIEGO, CA, June 07, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- When most people walk into a vintage shop, they might find a cloche hat or a quirky pin. Jill G. Hall found the perfect plot for a historical fiction novel.

Before becoming an International Book Award finalist, Hall made a name for herself as a poet and artist who created collages from "found objects" which she discovered on her regular treasure hunts at thrift shops and vintage boutiques.

During one of these vintage shopping excursions, Hall became enchanted with a black velvet coat and began wondering about its original owner. The coat took her on a ten-year journey of discovery as she put pen to page and the characters revealed their stories. The result was her debut historical fiction novel The Black Velvet Coat which was a 2016 finalist for the International Book Award in New Fiction and Amazon #1 Bestseller.

On June 19, Hall releases her second novel The Silver Shoes, a sparkling tale about pair of vintage shoes worn by Clair, a fallen debutante-turned-burlesque dancer in New York's Roarin' Twenties and a modern-day struggling artist in San Francisco.

"On the surface my books are about women finding something special in a vintage shop, but they are ultimately about strong women defining their place in the world," says Halls "That's not always easy because of how culture defines women at different periods of history. But the journey of exploration is always worth taking because it helps people become their most authentic self." She adds, "I love when readers tell me they saw themselves in one of my characters because when we share stories about women's lives we learn more about ourselves."

Weaving seamlessly from past to present, Hall explores what it means to be a woman, artist, and lover in a world filled with expectations that are often at odds with one's true self.

Hall's first novel, The Black Velvet Coat follows the lives of an heiress living in 1960s San Francisco and a modern-day artist looking for her big break in the City by the Bay. As Hall penned the novel, she became inspired to create collages based on the story she was crafting. "My art has always been intersectional, so it seemed only natural that I would create artwork based on a novel I was writing about an artist," says Hall from the Inspirations Gallery at San Diego's Liberty Station, where she is the curator.

Even before her debut novel started hitting bestseller lists, Hall knew she would write another book that featured Anne, the mosaic and collage artist, and a vintage find that leads her to something magical.

Jill G. Hall is a novelist, artist, and poet. Her debut novel was an International Book Award Finalist for Best New Fiction and Amazon #1 Bestseller. Her second novel will be released this June.
