Prior to her current role, she excelled as the treasurer for the state of Wyoming from 1999 to 2007, and a member of the Wyoming State Senate from 1993 to 1995. She previously served in the Wyoming House of Representatives from 1979 to 1983 and from 1985 to 1993. In addition to her political posts, Ms. Lummis held the positions of a law clerk with the Wyoming Supreme Court from 1985 to 1986, an associate and partner with Wiederspahn, Lummis & Liepas P.C. from 1986 to 1995, and a rancher with Lummis Livestock Co. since 1972.
Ms. Lummis began her career as a student at the University of Wyoming, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in animal science in 1976. She continued her studies with the University of Wyoming, earning a Bachelor of Science in biology in 1978. She concluded her education at the same academic institute in 1985, earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence. Ms. Lummis has been admitted to practice law before the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and the United States District Court for the District of Wyoming.
A respected voice in her community, Ms. Lummis has been an active leader with a number of organizations, including the advisory committees of the University of Wyoming School of Nursing, School of Business and Ruckelshaus Institute, and on the steering committee of the Wyoming Business Alliance. The former member of the Wyoming Stock Growers Land Trust Board now serves on the Board of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget based in Washington, DC. She is also the godmother of the ANSAC Wyoming, a shipping vessel, which carries soda ash to Asian markets.
Throughout her career, Ms. Lummis has been recognized for her contributions. She has been featured in numerous publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in American Politics, Who's Who in the West, and Who's Who of American Women.
