Dr. David S. Seigler has been recognized as professor emeritus of the University of Illinois in Urbana since 2011.

With more than 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Seigler has been recognized as professor emeritus of the University of Illinois in Urbana since 2011, having been a professor of botany since 1979. In addition to his primary role, he was head of the Department of Plant Biology from 1988 to 1993. Earlier in his career, Dr. Seigler was an associate professor from 1976 to 1979 and an assistant professor of botany from 1970 to 1976.
Dr. Seigler began his career as a student at Southwestern Oklahoma State College in Weatherford, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1961. He continued his studies at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry in 1967. Dr. Seigler served as a postdoctoral associate with the United States Department of Agriculture, Northern Regional Research Laboratory from 1967 to 1968, subsequently holding a postdoctoral fellowship with the Department of Botany at the University of Texas at Austin.
A respected voice in the field, Dr. Seigler has been affiliated with numerous organizations in relation to his areas of expertise, having served as president of the Phytochemical Society of North America and the International Society of Chemical Ecology. He is a member of the Botanical Society of America, the American Chemical Society and the American Society of Plant Taxonomists. The contributor of several articles to professional journals, Dr. Seigler is also the author of "Plant Secondary Metabolism," and the editor of "Crop Resources" and "Phytochemistry and Angiosperm Phylogeny."
Throughout his career, Dr. Seigler has been recognized for his contributions, having received the Fulbright Hays Lecturer Award. The German Academic Exchange Service presented him with a Study Award, the Royal Chemical Society recognized him as a fellow, and he was a Fulbright Senior Specialist in Chile. Dr. Seigler has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the Midwest.
