Maria Isabel Garcia Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Maria Isabel Garcia continues to contribute as a part-time staff director for the All Saints Parish Resource Library in North Dallas, which she founded in 1978.

Beginning her career in electrical engineering, Ms. Garcia worked as a member of Bell Laboratories technical staff in Murray Hill, N.J. between 1970 and 1972. Relocating to Texas shortly thereafter with her husband due to his job, she became pregnant with their first child and dedicated her time to her local church. Developing an interest in the field of library science, she then became a parish librarian at All Saints Catholic Church in Dallas in 1985. Following these appointments, Ms. Garcia embarked upon a 21-year career as a library specialist in the Central University Libraries' Technology Services at Southern Methodist University between 1996 and 2017.

A member of the Area Network Geared to Education of Librarians in North Texas, Ms. Garcia has been affiliated with the Brown chapter of Tau Beta Pi as a member and secretary as well as Beta Phi Mu as a member. She previously served on the North Texas chapter of the Church and Synagogue Library Association for several years as the local board president, the vice-president in charge of programs, the vice-president in charge of membership and public relations and as both the newsletter editor and website master. The association notably recognized Ms. Garcia as Congregational Librarian of the Year in 1993.

Ms. Garcia continues to contribute as a part-time staff director for the All Saints Parish Resource Library in North Dallas, which she founded in 1978. During her years in engineering, she was an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. As a member of All Saints Catholic Church, she was appointed to numerous volunteer roles, including as the chairperson for Newcomers, chairperson for registrations and a member of the board for the Women's Organization. Ms. Garcia also taught religious education for six years, co-chaired the Parish Adult Christian Enrichment Committee with her husband and is a eucharistic minister.

Honored with multiple awards during her career, Ms. Garcia accepted an Outstanding Congregational Library Award from the Church and Synagogue Library Association in 2017. She also earned an Award for Service from Bishop Keven Farrell in 2014, as well as an All Saints Catholic Church Servant People of God Award in 1979 for her years of dedication to the parish.

Ms. Garcia has been featured in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who in Finance and Business. Born in Lisbon, Portugal, Ms. Garcia received her elementary and secondary education locally before completing two years toward a degree in chemical engineering at the Instituto Superior Tecnico of Lisbon. Transferring to Brown University, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in solid state chemistry, summa cum laude, in 1969. In 1985, Ms. Garcia graduated with a Master of Library Science at North Texas University.

The proud mother of one daughter, Ms. Garcia also has one beautiful granddaughter. In her free time, she loves to read, study the Bible and travel. Moreover, Ms. Garcia enjoys sewing and knitting.
