With 20 years of professional experience, Ms. Spaulding was a teacher of the emotionally and/or neurologically impaired and pre-primary impaired with Monroe County Intermediate School District from 1978 to 1993. Prior to obtaining this role, she was an intern with Ypsilanti State Hospital from 1975 to 1976. Earlier in her career, she was the head teacher of a nursery school in Ann Arbor, MI, from 1973 to 1975. Alongside her primary endeavors, she was a leader of groups of parents of children with a variety of handicapping conditions from 1978 to 1993. She was on the Child Find Committee at the Monroe County Intermediate School District for 20 years and was on the Monroe County Intermediate School District Grant Committee for 10 years, starting in 1988. Civically involved as well, Ms. Spaulding spoke publicly on topics concerning early childhood education and was a tutor for several organizations between 1996 and 2003.

Ms. Spaulding began her career as a student at Purdue University, where she completed coursework in child psychology from 1951 to 1953. She later returned to her studies with George Mason University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in 1973. She then joined Eastern Michigan University, earning a Master of Arts in 1978. She is certified as an educator of the emotionally and neurologically impaired and the pre-primary impaired.

A respected voice in her areas of interest, Ms. Spaulding has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. She is a member of the American Association of University Women, the U.S. Sail and Power Squadrons and the Thomas Paine National Historical Association. She has also been active with Phi Kappa Phi and the Punta Gorda-Port Charlotte chapter of the American Association of University Women. In an effort to share her wealth of knowledge with her community, she has authored several children's educational books and activity books for parents and teachers to use with children who struggle with cognitive, speech and language, fine motor, gross motor, and behavioral issues.

Throughout her career, Ms. Spaulding has been recognized for her contributions, including having received a Writer's Award from the U.S. Sail and Power Squadrons in 2001 and a Lifetime Achievement Award. In 1993, she was also the recipient of the Special Education Teacher of the Year Award from Monroe County, MI. In addition, she has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
