PLANTATION, FL, October 21, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Senator Lauren Book has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Renowned as an incredible advocate for women, children, families, and school safety, Lauren Book has excelled as a senator serving District 32 for Broward County in the Florida State Legislature since 2016, during which time she has implemented policies and affirmed standpoints that have raised national awareness and interest. The former Senate Democratic Leader Pro Tempore, she has further flourished as the founder and the chief executive officer of Lauren's Kids, for which she directs education and advocacy initiatives to prevent child sexual abuse and allow survivors of said abuse to heal, since 2007. Previously, Ms. Book began her career in the field of education, working as a co-teacher of Kindergarten students at the Henry S. West Laboratory School in Miami.

As she continued to pave her professional path through her exemplary efforts with Lauren's Kids, Ms. Book pursued an education at the University of Miami, earning a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education and creative writing in 2008. She subsequently concluded her studies at the University of Miami in 2012, graduating with a Master of Science in education with an emphasis in community psychology and social change. In the course of obtaining the latter degree, Ms. Book found success as a published author, releasing her lauded memoir "It's OK to Tell: A Story of Hope and Recovery" in 2011, which recounted her own childhood experiences with sexual and physical abuse.

Later authoring the acclaimed children's book "Lauren's Kingdom" in 2015, as well as articles featured in Newsweek, Cosmopolitan, GLAMOUR, the Huffington Post, USA Today, and myriad regional papers throughout Florida, Ms. Book has found much success as a speaker, advocate, and creative mind as well. Providing keynote addresses at the Children's Treatment Centre Celebrity Walk in 2013, the Crime Stoppers International Conference in 2013 and 2014, the UNICEF Break the Silence Conference in 2014, the National Rapporteur's Symposium on Sexual Violence Against Children in 2014, and the International Violence Abuse and Trauma Conference in 2015, she served as a guest lecturer at the University of Oxford and a TEDxTalk speaker for a presentation titled "Find Your X, but First, Find Your (wh)Y?" in 2016. Further offering her unique knowledge and perspective at the Georgia Sheriffs' Association Training Academy, the University of Florida's College of Education, the University of Miami's College of education, and the College of Central Florida, Ms. Book has broadcasted her messages and policies on "The Katie Couric Show," "Our America with Lisa Ling," NPR, CNN, FOX News, and the BBC.

Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Ms. Book has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. Notably, she has contributed to the Florida Network of Children's Advocacy Centers as a board member and a past vice president, and serves on the board of the State of Florida's Human Trafficking Taskforce Direct Service Organization . Additionally, Ms. Book remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise, including Florida Children's Cabinet, the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas Public Safety Commission, and the Broward County Crime Stoppers.

Ms. Book has led the way for several remarkable changes in her region, most notably the "Safer, Smarter Schools" curriculum for pre-K through grade 12 abuse prevention, which has been adopted in 34 states as well as internationally. For her development on this curriculum, she has been presented with multiple ADDY Awards for Content Direction. Moreover, she has introduced bills to remove Confederate Memorial Day, Robert E. Lee's Birthday, and Jefferson Davis' Birthday from Florida's legal and state holidays in 2017. Furthermore, Ms. Book has produced Emmy and Gracie Award-winning television programs and specials, such as "Intimate Crimes" in 2014, "What if I Told You" in 2016, "Lauren's Kingdom" in 2018, and "Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Through Education" in 2018, among others.

In light of her exceptional undertakings, Ms. Book has accrued numerous accolades throughout her career. Inducted to the Broward County Women's Hall of Fame in 2018, she has been recognized as a National Woman of Worth by L'Oreal Paris in 2013, the Citizen of the Year by the Biscayne Bay Kiwanis Club in 2014, a Best-Selling Children's Book Author by Publisher's Weekly in 2015, and the KIND Causes Winner from KIND Snacks in 2015. Accepting the Congressional Medal of Merit from Senator Bill Nelson in 2011, she was presented with the Lewis Hine Award from the National Child Labor Committee in 2012, the Daily Points of Light Award from Points of Light in 2014, the IMPACT Award from Gainesville HOME Magazine in 2015, and the Lollipop Award from Amigos for Kids in 2015. Furthermore, Ms. Book was celebrated with the Care for Kids Award from ChildNet in 2016, the Legacy Award from the Ancient Spanish Monastery Foundation in 2016, the KOLOT Breaking the Silence Award from Goodman Jewish Family Services in 2017, the GLAMOUR Woman of the Year "Heroes Among Us" Award in 2018, and the Change Maker Award from the Child Mind Institute in 2019.

Attributing her success to her drive for change, persistence in bettering herself, and an innate desire to present an example of moral fortitude to her own wonderful children, Ms. Book subscribes to two philosophies for her way of life: "You don't choose your circumstances, but you choose how you overcome them" and "Sexual Abuse can color your life, but you choose what color to paint it." Learning at an early age that working through the legislature and helping shape the laws can protect those who are vulnerable and impact change, Ms. Book hopes to continue her extraordinary progress in the Senate, in her community, and in her household while inspiring other young women to seek a seat at the table and advocate for one another in the years to come.
