Dr. Kenneth G. Snetsinger's work has focused on mineralogical studies of returned lunar samples and analysis of atmospheric aerosols collected at extremely high altitude.

Dr. Snetsinger is a retired mineralogist with more than 30 years of distinction in his field. He was inspired to enter the field as a child after an encounter who a local mineralogist who shared information with him about various specimens. Dr. Snetsinger attended Stanford University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1961 and a Master of Science in 1962. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy from Stanford University in 1966.

From 1958 until 1962, Dr. Snetsinger was a research assistant for the United States Geological Survey in Menlo Park. He became an instructor at Stanford University in Palo Alto from 1963 to 1966. Before beginning his career with NASA. Dr. Snetsinger conducted postdoctoral research at NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, CA between 1966 and 1969. He rose to the position of research scientist there in 1969, and was a NASA scientist until 1993.

Dr. Snetsinger's work has focused on mineralogical studies of returned lunar samples and analysis of atmospheric aerosols collected at extremely high altitude. He has in addition discovered several terrestrial minerals new to science. Dr. Snetsinger was a member of the New York Academy of Sciences and the American Geophysical Union, and served as the chairman of NASA's Source Evaluation Board between 1990 and 1993.
