Dr. Felthouse initially earned a Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, from the University of the Pacific in 1973, and followed this accomplishment with a Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry from the University of Illinois in 1978. Currently a technology fellow at DuPont Clean Technologies, he held a summer undergraduate position as a National Science Foundation research participant with Washington State University in 1972. During his senior year in 1973 at the University of the Pacific he held a position as a research assistant. As his educational career progressed, Dr. Felthouse held graduate teaching and research assistantships at the University of Illinois, Urbana­Champaign. Dr. Felthouse was a postdoctoral research associate at Texas A&M University from 1978 to 1980 before joining the Monsanto Company in 1980 as a senior research chemist. Dr. Felthouse held positions with Monsanto Company as research specialist, senior research specialist, associate fellow, and fellow from 1983 to 1992. In 1994, Dr. Felthouse joined Huntsman Corporation as a Senior Research Associate in the Maleic Technology area until 2001. In 2001, he rejoined Monsanto Company, MECS, Inc., and became a technology fellow in 2003.

Interested in chemistry since he was in high school, Dr. Felthouse studied both organic and inorganic chemistry and excelled in his undergraduate laboratory classes. Demonstrating unmatched expertise in his industry, he has contributed articles and reviews on chemistry and chemical technology to journals and books in his field. Dr. Felthouse holds 10 U.S. patents and is also an international patentee in his field. Currently in a career that has lasted for nearly five decades, he is particularly proud of accomplishments in the period from 1980 to 1990 that provided the foundation and experience in industrial chemical technology for further work.

Dr. Felthouse was named a Governor's Scholar in 1969 by then California Governor Ronald Reagan. He held a California State Scholarship from 1969 to 1973 while attending the University of the Pacific. Dr. Felthouse belongs to the American Chemical Society (ACS), for which he has served as an ACS local news editor, science fair chairman, and finance committee chairman. He was also the recipient of the ACS Analytical Division Undergraduate Award in 1972. Other organizations in which he is a member include the American Institute of Chemists, the New York Academy of Sciences, and the North American Catalysis Society. Dr. Felthouse has been honored in numerous publications, including Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
