Dr. Rowe has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the fields of mechanical engineering and higher education

DEVON, ENGLAND, March 24, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present William Brian Rowe, PhD, DSc, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Rowe celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Establishing himself as a leader among his peers, Dr. Rowe began a very rewarding career in mechanical engineering and higher education as an engineering apprentice with the Austin Motor Company in Birmingham, England from 1955 to 1961. He subsequently worked in the private sector and in academia, eventually garnering the title of professor emeritus at Liverpool John Moores University after many years as a professor of mechanical engineering. Furthermore, Dr. Rowe served at the aforementioned university as the head of the mechanical, marine, and production engineering department, a member of several committees and as the assistant rector, the latter of which he considers to be the pinnacle of his academic career.

Shortly before retiring from the Liverpool John Moores University, Dr. Rowe was appointed as the chairman of the research assessment panel for general engineering research departments throughout the United Kingdom by the Higher Education Funding Council for England, a post he held until 1998. Additionally, recruited as the director of the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Research Laboratory, he supervised a very effective method for developing technologies to improve the quality of manufacturing processes. In 1992, Dr. Rowe also became active as an independent consultant.

Dr. Rowe further flourished with the Wickman Machine Tool Company in Coventry, England, advancing from a researcher to a senior project engineer. Tasked with studying grinding machine developments, he also patented a double diaphragm valve, which he later documented in an award-winning article. Recruited by Coventry University in 1967, Dr. Rowe lectured and continued conducting research on centerless grinding machine design.

As a seasoned researcher, Dr. Rowe authored several textbooks, including multiple editions of "Principles of Modern Grinding Technology" in 2009 and 2014 as well as "Hydrostatic, Aerostatic and Hybrid Bearing Design" in 2012. Among other publications, he has contributed to numerous articles featured in scholarly journals and holds several patents in his field. Recognized as a fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, for which he had maintained his involvement on the London chapter of the tribology group committee from 1988 to 2003, Dr. Rowe was affiliated with the Institution of Production Engineers, the Science and Engineering Research Council in London and the International Academy of Production Engineering.

Born and raised in England, Dr. Rowe initially obtained a Bachelor of Science in production engineering at Aston University in Birmingham in 1961. He concluded his studies at Manchester University, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in machine tools in 1964 and the higher doctorate of science in 1975. A fellow of the Goldsmiths Company in London in 1972, Dr. Rowe has supported his career with grants from the Science and Engineering Research Council between 1968 and 2005 and the British Council in 1980.

Moreover, Dr. Rowe was presented the Joseph Whitworth Award in 1971 and 1991, the Donald Julius Groen Prize for advances in tribology from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in London in 1988, the A.M. Strickland Prize from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in 1997 and the Walter R. Evans Platinum Medal from the Donald Bentley Pressurized Bearing Company in the U.S. in 2004. More recently, the Abrasive Machine Symposium of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Manufacturing Science, and Engineering was named in his honor in 2016. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Rowe has been cited in several editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the World.
