For more than 40 years, Dr. Harris has worked in a variety of settings as a licensed psychologist. In private practice in Scottsdale, Arizona, since 1981, she has extensive expertise working with children, adolescents, adults and families struggling with divorce, loss, trauma and other daily life challenges. She also specializes in therapeutic services and assessment services for those with social, learning and developmental disorders, as well as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Prior to establishing her practice, Dr. Harris held several other noteworthy roles, including as a school psychologist for the Scottsdale Public Schools, as a psychologist at the American School and the Mario Mendoza Neurological Psychiatric Hospital in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and in private practice in Tegucigalpa where she notably supported the Peace Corps volunteers as a consultant.
Serving as an instrumental figure in her community, Dr. Harris was appointed by the governor of Arizona as a member of the Arizona Marriage and Communication Skills Commission, an organization that offers workshops and materials for married couples to strengthen their relationship. She has served as a board member of the Scottsdale Honors Cotillion, a local, non-profit organization that recognizes female high school seniors in very good standing with various weekly programs to prepare them for life after high school graduation.
During her career, Dr. Harris co-authored a resource book, entitled "Tegus Con Gusto." The book was written for foreign nationals living in Honduras and Central America.
Dr. Harris earned a Bachelor of Science in sociology at the University of Utah in 1970. She later acquired a Master of Counseling Psychology in 1972 and a Ph.D. in 1988 at Arizona State University. She is a licensed psychologist in Arizona and North Carolina, is a nationally certified school psychologist and an Arizona certified school psychologist.
Among her professional memberships, Dr. Harris is a member and former communications representative for the Arizona Psychological Association and a founding member, past president and former treasurer of the Scottsdale Psychological Association. She is a life member of the American Psychological Association, clinical fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and a member of the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards, the National Association School Psychologists and several other professional organizations. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Harris has been included in the 24th, 25th and 27th editions of Who's Who of American Women.
