Mr. Gordon has written a plethora of articles for Sky & Telescope, Journal of the Association of Lunar and Planetary Observers, Star and Sky, Review of Popular Astronomy and Icarus.
NAZARETH, PA, July 12, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rodger W. Gordon has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. A seasoned business professional with expertise in numerous professions, Mr. Gordon was an optical consultant to Questar Corporation and Vernonscope. He was also an assistant sales engineer at Edmund Scientific, Co. from 1967 to 1969 and from 1970 to 1989 worked in educational sales. He also spent three years with the former Optical Techniques and served as a machine operator in a toy factory.
At the age of eleven, Mr. Gordon fostered an interest in astronomy. Since 1954, he has observed Mars at every opposition, and in 1962 he was an independent co-discoverer of the four day rotation period of Venus' upper atmosphere. Mr. Gordon has written a plethora of articles for Sky & Telescope, Journal of the Association of Lunar and Planetary Observers, Star and Sky, Review of Popular Astronomy and Icarus. He also authored book reviews and regularly contributed to The Practical Observer. He also authored a monthly column on astronomy for the Lehigh Valley Amateur Astronomical Society's publication, The Observer. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Mr. Gordon has been affiliated with the Association of Lunar and Planetary Observation. He has owned more than 350 eyepieces and 70 telescopes.
He is currently involved in getting a light pollution ordinance passed in his township. So far, the Board of Supervisors has indicated a willingness to pass such an ordinance, but whether it will be retroactive or not has yet to be determined. "The night sky is part of our environment and the Jacobsburg State Park Environmental Educational Center is only one of three EECs in the state of Pennsylvania. I live across the street from the southwest corner of the park," said Mr. Gordon.
For his outstanding work in the field, he was inducted to The Academic Hall of Fame in the Pen Argyl area school district in 2017.
