NORTH CHARLESTON, SC, May 17, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Tim S. Hilkhuijsen has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Hilkhuijsen brings more than 35 years of relevant experience to his role as the president and co-owner of Architecture Plus LLC in North Charleston, South Carolina. Founded in 2011 alongside his business partner, Kevin Whalley, his full-service architectural design firm focuses on residential new construction and renovations, as well as commercial building design for new and older buildings. Mr. Hilkhuijsen's team of registered architects are licensed to practice in North and South Carolina, Colorado, Texas, Kentucky and the District of Columbia.
As an architect of the firm, Mr. Hilkhuijsen specializes in designing high-end custom homes and commercial buildings that reflect quality and functionality, while enshrining the various desires of each client. Specializing in light commercial structures and custom homes throughout the east coast of the U.S., his portfolio of work has included numerous multi-family dwellings, mixed-use facilities, and retail and office spaces.
Presently, Mr. Hilkhuijsen is working toward the completion of several local restaurant projects, including an 11,000 square foot renovation in Fort Worth, Texas. Among his many previous commercial projects, he was instrumental in the design of the largest Starbucks location in all of South Carolina. He also completed several significant corporate office buildings, including a large complex called "Workplace at Nexton." Furthermore, Mr. Hilkhuijsen is proud of his latest residential project for a custom home on Kiawah Island.
Aside from his commitments as an architect, Mr. Hilkhuijsen often spearheads preliminary cost estimates for the firm to determine if client projects are on target. He is also heavily engaged in marketing. Looking toward the future, his primary objective is to continue generating more business so that a new team can eventually assume control over the business, after which Mr. Hilkhuijsen intends to consider a consulting role in the field.
Mr. Hilkhuijsen previously worked for several other leading firms during his career, including Dolphin Architects and Builders in Charleston as the director of design and New Tradition Builders & Architects as an architect. Among other appointments, he maintained involvement as the co-owner and principal of Atelier Architecture on Kiawah Island, South Carolina, from 1996 to 2001. Outside of his primary career endeavors, Mr. Hilkhuijsen frequently contributes on behalf of his community to Habitat for Humanity, The National Kidney Foundation, and a local struggling high school.
Born in The Hague, Netherlands, Mr. Hilkhuijsen relocated to Lagos, Nigeria, with his family when he was six. He later lived in Indonesia before settling in the U.S. in 1976. Living in different countries throughout his life, he noted, exerted a positive impact on his career later in life, as well as his ability to connect with his clients. Mr. Hilkhuijsen has held an Associate of Applied Science in architectural engineering from Aims Community College in Colorado since 1987. He subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science from Southern Illinois University in 1995.
To enhance his professional skills, Mr. Hilkhuijsen serves on the national board as treasurer for the Society of American Registered Architects, and as a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Royal Institute of British Architects, the National Association of Home Builders and other industry-related organizations.
