Upon earning an Associate of Science in medical laboratory technology from the New York City College of Technology in 1969, Ms. Osborne earned a Bachelor of Arts in speech and language pathology and education, as well as a Master of Science from Lehman College City University of New York. She subsequently began her career as a speech and language evaluator for the Commission on Special Education for District 10 and as a therapist for Sheltering Arms Family Day Care in New York. Following these experiences, Dr. Osborne served as a therapist and consultant for Lacombe Avenue Intermediate Care Facility, a teacher associate and mentor for the Lehman College's Dwight D. Eisenhower Program and the Teacher Opportunity Corps, and as a therapist for the Department of Education in New York City, where she worked between 1983 and 2012.
Driven to expand upon her industry expertise, Dr. Osborne earned a Bachelor of Theology and Masters of Christian Theology from Anchor Theological Seminary and Bible Institute, a Bachelor of Arts with additional credits through Nyack College and Alliance Theological Seminary, and an honorary Doctor of Divinity through the Heart Bible International University. Additionally, she became a licensed international clinical chaplain and pastoral counselor through the College of Pastoral Supervision & Psychotherapy Inc. and received an HIV Pre/Post Test Counselor certificate through the New York City Department of Health.
Backed by her vast experiences and considerable knowledge, Dr. Osborne authored the "Autobiography of Velma Osborne: Reflects on African American History"(https://www.authorleaderbooks.com/). In recognition of her outstanding accomplishments, she received a Humanitarian Social Service Award for Supporting Human Dignity without Compensation from Heart Bible International University. Additionally, she received two Citations in 2020. The first is from the Mayor of Hartford, CT Luke Bronin for her community outreach work. The other Citation is from The Connecticut General Assembly for outstanding post graduate coursework completion. While her career has been filled with standout moments, she takes the most pride in following the tenets of her Christian faith.
