Inspired to make a difference in the lives of others, Mr. Phillips began his career as a safety and security director for Tyson Foods Inc., where he worked between 1998 and 2002. He subsequently joined the company's pork division, the Pork Group Inc. through which he served as the Eastern Division safety manager for the following two years. Drawing on years of professional experience, he presently excels as the administrator of safety and loss prevention for the City of Overland Park. Since joining the municipal government in 2004, Mr. Phillips administers the City's Safety & Loss Prevention and Hazardous Communications programs.
An expert in his field, Mr. Phillips holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Additionally, he became a certified safety manager, administrator, safety consultant, advanced safety professional and trainer through the National Association of Safety Professionals, through which he is also certified as an environmental and safety compliance officer through the National Registry of Environmental Professionals. Likewise, he is certified as a behavior-based ergonomics specialist through the Safety and Rehab Institute, a safety, health & environmental professional and a workers compensation professional through Michigan State University. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Mr. Phillips aligns himself with the American Society of Safety Engineers, the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and the National Association of Safety Professionals.
While his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Phillips is most proud of obtaining the Tyson Foods Excellence in Safety Corporate Award and to have been promoted to the Pork Division at Tyson Foods Inc.
