Mr. Goodson's career is lauded for his dedication to public service, education and community involvement. His professional journey began with his service in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1968 to 1969, where he developed a profound sense of duty and resilience. This experience laid the foundation for his subsequent roles in law enforcement and academia.

Since 2009, Mr. Goodson has been affiliated with Columbia Southern University (CSU) based in Orange Beach, Alabama. Mr. Goodson serves as an online, full-time professor of criminal justice on behalf of CSU. During his tenure, he also chaired the criminal justice program, where he was responsible for the leadership and management of local personnel, as well as full-time and adjunct professors. In 2022, Mr. Goodson also became an adjunct professor of homeland security, online, with Waldorf University in Forest City, Iowa. Previously, he served as an adjunct professor in the social sciences department at the University of the Virgin Islands from 2014 to 2021. Upon his return home to the U.S. from Afghanistan during his early years of academia, where he also served as a professor of counter-terrorism and emergency planning at Everest Online in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Texas, between 2011 and 2015.

Embarking on his career with the Parker County Sheriff's Department in Weatherford, Texas, in 1990, Mr. Goodson initially served as a jailer before advancing to patrol deputy from 1991 to 1997. His leadership skills were recognized when he became lead patrol sergeant in 1997, a position he held until transitioning to second in command in criminal investigations and lead officer for the Crimes Against Children Task Force between 1990 and 2001.

Mr. Goodson's expertise extended beyond law enforcement. From 2006 to 2008, he served as central region commander for the Afghan National Civil Order Police Program in Kabul, Afghanistan. This role highlighted his ability to adapt and lead in challenging environments.

Highly educated, Mr. Goodson earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing from Texas Christian University in 1972, a Master of Science in administration of justice and security from the University of Phoenix in 2008, and pursued a Doctor of Psychology with a focus on criminology with the University of the Rockies in 2011. He also completed 30 hours of coursework toward a Ph.D in criminal justice and homeland security at Liberty University. Mr. Goodson's professional credentials as a Certified Homeland Protection Professional (CHPP) from the National Sheriffs' Association and as a bomb-making materials awareness program-administrative trainer on behalf of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency's Office for Bombing Prevention. further underscore his expertise. This signifies that Mr. Goodson is deeply committed to civic engagement as volunteered with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Bomb-Making Materials Awareness Program since 2019 and has been involved with organizations such as Crime Stoppers and Explorer Post 72 in Weatherford, Texas.

Mr. Goodson is also an accomplished author, having penned the verified documentation of his service as a Combined Action Marine (CAP), during the VIET NAM War. The book is titled, CAP MOT, and Country Cop: True Tales from a Texas Deputy Sheriff both published by the University of North Texas Press in 1997 and 2020, respectively; among other works. He also offers several article publications and served as a writer on behalf of a video production known as Protect Our Little Ones, which was produced in 1997 as well.

Recognized through awards like Sergeant of the Year, Investigator of the Year, and Officer of the Year from the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ladies Auxiliary in Weatherford, Mr. Goodson was also honored with a Parker County Civic Award as well as the Parker County Sheriff's Commendation Award in 2001. Throughout his multifaceted career, he has remained steadfastly committed to serving others. This ethos continues to guide him as he imparts knowledge to future generations while actively contributing to his community through various civic initiatives.
