As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Cate, a theatrical writer, director, choreographer and producer and has also become known for her work as a humanitarian and philanthropist.

Deeply committed to training and pursuing her first love of dance, Ms. Caplin accrued a wealth of expertise in the performing arts beginning in her early childhood. Since then she has garnered a sterling reputation for her remarkable contributions to various forms of popular media, including television, film, music videos, commercials and theatrical productions. Tightly enmeshed in the Los Angeles dramatic arts scene, her talents run the gamut from dancing to writing, choreography, production and direction. To date, Ms. Caplin has left her indelible mark on well over 200 theatrical productions across a wide variety of venues, both domestic and international.

Ms. Caplin began her theatrical training at the age of five. Already a precocious dancer, her mother often took her to local ballet and musical theatre performances, which continued to capture her imagination and inspired an abiding passion for music and the magic of the performing arts. Hailing from a family deeply involved with the arts, she had no shortage of influences to draw upon while coming of age; her mother was a painter, designer and writer, her father a boxer, actor and famous lawyer, and her brothers Michael, Jeremy and Lee distinguished themselves in arts management, theatre, visual arts and producing. Upon moving to New York City, Cate's own talents truly came to the fore.

Ms. Caplin initially sought an education at Columbia University, where she took classes in Film Studies and Psychology. Throughout the course of her subsequent career, she has received multifaceted training in numerous artistic styles and fields from both private coaches and various academies including Continuing Ed studies at New York University, UCLA and most recently, Yale University. Cate honed her acting skills at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, HB Studios, The Groundlings and with Charles Kebbe Associates. In the world of dance training, she studied at such luminary institutions as Interlochen Center for the Arts, the Washington School of Ballet, the Metropolitan Ballet, the Royal Academy of Arts in London, and with many fine teachers including Mary Day, Finis Jhung, David Howard, Maggie Black, Lee Theodore, Francois Szony and Bill Bartlett. As a soloist and principal dancer, she joined the ranks of 3 professional ballet companies which included the North Carolina Dance Theatre, Metropolitan Ballet and Ballet West. An affirmed lifelong student, Cate received lessons in vocal performance with such tutors as Carlos Noble, Richard Loring, Fred Silver, Amelia Haas, Carol Weiss and Eric Vetro, and learned proper film making technique at the University of California Los Angeles Extension and at the American Film Institute. A skillful teacher and coach in her own right, Ms. Caplin has parlayed her knowledge of musical theater, ballroom and theatrical dance on behalf of the Edge Performing Arts Center, the Monterey Peninsula Ballroom Academy, Harvard Westlake, the University of Virginia, Arena Stage, The Alvin Ailey School and Interlochen Center for the Arts, to name only a few.

As a producer, director and choreographer, Ms. Caplin has been involved in innumerable theatrical productions, with her work featured at such renowned venues as the White House, the Metropolitan Opera House, Ford's Theatre, Rockefeller Center, the Kennedy Center, the Hollywood Palladium, the Hollywood Bowl, the Palace of Fine Arts, the Paris Opera House, Sundance Film Festival and at the Edinburgh Arts Festival in Scotland among many others. Some of her directorial credits include "A View from the Bridge" "It's a Wonderful Life," "Private Lives," "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," "It's Only a Play","The Importance of Being Earnest," "Wait Until Dark," "Jake's Women," "Doubt," "Picnic," "Rabbit Hole," "I Carry Your Heart," "The Angel Next Door," "Becky's New Car" and "Heartbeat of Chernobyl" as well as Directing and Choreographing productions of "Cabaret", "She Loves Me", "Little Shop of Horrors", "Smokey Joe's Cafe", "South Pacific", "The Sound of Music", "Dames at Sea", "Music Man", "Damn Yankees", "The All Night Strut," "Little Women" and "Rocky Horror", not to mention a great variety of additional independent productions she has directed, choreographed and produced. She also Directed a music video for Grammy Award Winning artist Melissa Manchester, adapted a stage play into "Mating Dance" a multiple award winning feature film that she also directed and choreographed. and most recently Executive Produced and Directed another feature film called "The Unicorn Diaries."

A prolific presence on the stage herself, Ms. Caplin has contributed her skills as a dancer, actress and guest artist in film, television, commercials and cabaret shows as well as theatrical performances worldwide throughout the course of her professional journey. In addition to her work in musical theatre and other forms of media, Ms. Caplin is a multi-award winning Theatrical Ballroom Dancer, having won gold medals and championship recognitions for her outstanding abilities. Among her accomplishments, she is a three-time winner of Star Search and 34 times Regional and International Theatrical Ballroom Dance Champion with partners Tom Slater and Murray Phillips including 6 gold medals at the World Performing Arts Competition while collaborating with her dance partner, Gary Franco.

Over the years, in order to remain aware of developments affecting her field, Ms. Caplin maintained her professional affiliation with a number of pertinent organizations, including several performing arts magazines for which she served as a contributing writer and editor. These included WIT Magazine, LA Dance and Fitness Magazine, the Los Angeles Review, LA Theater Magazine, Premiere and In Theatre Magazine. Moreover, Ms. Caplin is an advisory board member of Women in Theatre, which notably bestowed her with its "Most Valuable Member of the Year" award. Additionally, the LA Film Commission honored her with an "Award of Excellence" for her work as a Writer, Director, Choreographer and Producer and Playwright's Arena presented her with the "Lee Melville Award, for Outstanding Contribution to the Los Angeles Theatre Community." Most recently she received a Stage Scene LA Award for Best Director of the Year.

In her personal ventures, Ms. Caplin is the Producing Artistic Director of Night & Day Entertainment, a production company she shares with her creative partner, Vernon Willet. The company specializes in custom designed entertainment for industrial trade shows, corporate events and private soirees. She also provides ballroom teachers and performers for Disney Cruise Lines.

In accounting for her wonderful success as a director, producer, writer and influencer in the realm of the performing arts, Ms. Caplin credits her propensity for being a storyteller to her passion and determination. She is forever inspired by and grateful to both her mother and father who exposed her to the arts at such a young age and who nurtured and positively supported her pursuits. Cate is singularly self-motivated and harbors the constant desire to grow and reshape her career in order to adjust to the evolution of this ever-changing business as well as the dramatic shifts in the world at large.

A dedicated humanitarian and philanthropist and thanks to the Caplin Foundation role model established by her parents Ruth and Mortimer Caplin, Ms. Caplin continues to find meaning in her life by graciously donating her time, talent and experience in support of the arts, child welfare, creative education, animal rights, and environmental protection. She also makes it a life priority to give generously in support of organizations that contribute to the well-being of others, our communities and the world at large. Most recently, hers was the last leadership gift needed to reach a 6.9 million fundraising goal for Interlochen Center for the Arts in creating a new Dance Building to help support the dreams and aspirations of all those who will grace the grounds of Interlochen in years to come. Ms. Caplin's personal goal is to provide more opportunities for all people while unlocking human potential, promoting healing and resiliency and providing financial support and scholarships that contribute to our world-wide community, while improving the quality of life for individuals through the arts and education initiatives.
