WHITEFISH, MT, August 01, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michele L. Malski has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
With a career spanning 15 years, Ms. Malski has established herself as an expert in recruiting, mentorship and railroad advocacy. Her success is unsurprising given her lifelong interest in the railroad industry. Her father, Larry Malski, current president of the Pennsylvania Northeast Regional Railroad Authority (PNRRA) and Esquire, was her first mentor who introduced her to the industry. Michele learned at a young age the power of curiosity. She saw everything from tunnels that had to be heightened to accommodate new traffic to having the opportunity to walk into an empty grain silo, where she could hear her voice magnify, before it was put in use with a grain co-op. From the experiences of her first mentor, she aims to emulate this intrigue and inspiring spirit for future generations. Ms. Malski's early life experiences alongside the tracks with her father ignited her passion, and she is proud of her title as a second-generation railroader.
In preparation for her future, Ms. Malski received a bachelor's degree in labor and industrial relations from Cornell University in 2012 and a Master of Business Administration from Quantic School of Business and Technology in 2019. Additionally, she holds several certifications, including conflict resolution and mediation from the Scheinman Institute of Management at Cornell University and SHRM Inclusive Workplace Culture Specialty Credential Certificate.
While pursuing her undergraduate degree, Ms. Malski completed internships with Bombardier Transportation in Berlin, Germany in 2010, and later joined Amtrak in Washington, D.C., as a government relations intern from 2011 to 2012. Ms. Malski stayed motivated in ensuring she captured a well-rounded rail experience while still in school with her last internship/co-op with Norfolk Southern Corporation in Norfolk, Virginia, as an EEO and human relations professional before graduating.
Ms. Malski's professional career began with roles that laid a strong foundation for her future endeavors. She started her journey as a management trainee to become a terminal trainmaster (terminal operational manager) at BNSF Railway between 2012 and 2013 in Minot, North Dakota, learning key efficiency processes during Bakken oil shale booms. She was elevated further to a division trainmaster (divisional operational manager) at the Canadian Pacific Railway, now CPKC, in Binghamton, New York, from 2013 to 2015, managing over 400 miles of territory.
To ensure she understood all aspects of the operational side, Ms. Malski worked as an operations manager at a passenger service provider for MARC via Bombardier in Baltimore between 2015 and 2016, where she played a crucial role in enhancing operational systems and communication. She honed her collaborative style and finetuned her speaking and presentation abilities during her tenure as the hazmat and safety culture training manager at the Short Line Safety Institute from 2016 to 2019 in Washington, D.C., where she managed a team to build educational training, created fresh content for safety awareness, and presented training to smaller railroads seeking supplemental enhancement for their approach for changing culture. Later, she served as a subject matter expert rail consultant for US Cargo Systems in 2021.
Ms. Malski's impact on the railroad industry is exemplified by her current role as founder and president of Succession Planning for Railroads Investing in the Next Generation (SPRING) LLC, established in 2019. Her leadership at SPRING is marked by her commitment to fostering a team of three talented women, a testament to her dedication to diversity and empowerment within the industry. Under her guidance, the organization achieved a remarkable milestone by reaching the million-dollar mark in 2024, which she attributes to her team's hard work, innovation, and inspiration towards the next generation to consider rail, allowing SPRING to act as a change agent in the centuries-old industry.
Beyond her professional achievements, Ms. Malski is actively involved in a variety of other rail-related organizations. She served as the director at large on the League of Railway Women board from 2019 to 2024 and currently sits as the Veterans Committee vice chair with the National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association (NRC). She also served as chair of the Young Professionals Committee with the ASLRRA, and led the Transportation Club of Kansas City for her term as president. In 2024, Ms. Malski established a 501(c)3 educational non-profit called Hands-on Education from Railroad Employers, or HERE, to educate others about the rail industry and inspire the next generation of railroaders about the rail industry for all interests and backgrounds; it's not just conductors and engineers but a myriad of opportunity in marketing, finance, IT, cybersecurity, operations, engineering, and more. Her work with HERE will continue to bring more curious minds to the industry and serve as that pathway of education and the first step in considering something many have not considered before; a life in the rail industry.
Ms. Malski's competitive nature has been a driving force behind her success and has propelled her forward even when challenges arise. This fierce mentality has been pivotal in her journey, allowing her to seize opportunities and excel in various aspects of her life. In preparation for the future, Ms. Malski is driven by goals that reflect continuous growth and expansion while maintaining stability and happiness for her team and inspiring others to consider the rail industry as a viable and exciting career option. Just like she had found with her first mentor, she is here and ready to be the next generation's mentor for the future.
