He also designed and implemented a shock isolation system for DSP Flight 23. Additionally, he was the responsible engineer for the Modal Test of Chandra Space Observatory Satellite.

Dr. Simonian's academic background is equally impressive, having earned a Doctorate in mechanics and structures from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1979. He also holds both a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in structural engineering from California State University, Long Beach.
