Mr. Tang, a second-generation Chinese American, has established a distinguished career in the theatrical arts, particularly in advancing the representation of Asian Americans in theater and drama. As co-founder of Pork Filled Productions since 1998, he has dedicated 27 years to producing innovative works that fill critical gaps in Asian American drama and comedy. Mr. Tang oversees the production of approximately two shows annually, organizes a series of readings and actively develops scripts from Asian American playwrights nationwide.

Among his most notable achievements is introducing the talents of prominent Asian American authors such as Prince Gomolvilas, Qui Nguyen and Carla Ching to audiences in the Pacific Northwest. He has also facilitated the development and staging of original works for Asian American theater artists across various genres. This includes supporting a steampunk trilogy by Maggie Lee, which has been produced beyond Seattle, as well as shepherding eight or nine original scripts that have been performed both locally and nationally.

Since 2007, Mr. Tang has served as literary manager for SIS Productions, where he continues to champion new voices and stories within the Asian American community. His expertise in theatrical production and advocacy for representation has earned him recognition as an authority in his field.

Mr. Tang's influence extends into publishing as editor and publisher of the Asian American Theatre Revue since 1995. Through this platform, he has provided critical coverage and support for Asian American theater artists and productions across the nation.

His professional affiliations demonstrate a profound commitment to promoting diversity in the arts. Since 2014, he has served as secretary on the board of directors for the Consortium of Asian American Theaters and Artists. He was previously a board member for Repertory Actors Theater from 1995 to 2014, ReAct from 1999 to 2008, and Northwest Asian American Theatre from 1984 to 1997, where he also held the position of development officer. Additionally, Mr. Tang is a member of the Writers Guild of America.

Mr. Tang's educational background includes a Master of Arts in communications behavior from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1985 and dual Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in geology and communications from Stanford University in Stanford in 1979. His academic training has provided a strong foundation for his work in both research strategy and theatrical production.

Throughout his career, Mr. Tang has received numerous accolades that recognize his contributions to the theater. He was featured in an article titled "Playwright Roger Tang talks about his new play inspired by Chinese pirate Zhang Tse, and advocating for Asian Americans within theatre." His production Vietgone received the Gregory Award for Outstanding Production in 2024. She Devil of the China Seas won Best Original Production (Community Theatre) from Heilman and Haver during 2022 to 2023. Mr. Tang's civic engagement includes serving as a fundraiser for over three decades, supporting organizations such as Pan Asia Repertory Theater and acting as a donor to various Asian American theaters. His involvement with The Seattle Times, through projects like "A Hand of Talons," further underscores his impact on both local and national stages.

Born in Phoenix, Mr. Tang grew up alongside two brothers. He enjoys reading science fiction and comic books during his personal time.
